Bob Savage to fill the remaining part of Greg Franklin's Term
Special Election to fill the post of President Elect to be held on September 29 |
|
Prez Greg rang the gavel to opening the meeting for the last time as Fullerton Rotary 2005/2005 president. Bob Clark Jr. led the Pledge and Kathy Allred-Blake gave the thought for the day and reminded us all what a privilege it was the day we were invited to join Rotary, and stated that Alan Atwell was a great example of “service above self.” A silent prayer time in honor of Alan was granted to all.
Leroy Fulton, Jim Young, and Howard Wood encouraged a rousing rendering of “Smile” and “America” from the club (accompanied ably by the very musical Don Ludwig on Octorina). Franki Berry introduced visiting Rotarians that included Bill Gillespie from Fullerton South, Bob Burnett and Jim Selvius from Brea Rotary. Franki also introduced visitor and recent USC graduate James Kemp (son of Julie and nephew of Franki). Wally Bartelt made the sad announcement that fellow Rotarian Alan Attwell passed away on Saturday, Sept 11th. Alan was recovering from by-pass surgery when he had fatal heart attack. The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is scheduled for October 14 at 7:30 AM. Call Bill Mathy or Dr. Leroy Fulton for details. The Rotary club will send flowers and Judy has let us know that a scholarship fund will be set up in Alan’s name and members may contribute through the Rotary club. See Frank Kawase for details. Visitation for Alan will be Thursday, September 16th 5-9 PM at Memory Garden Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held Friday September 17th at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church in Brea. |
Nate Kvetney has just returned from Israel and Prague and wished the club peace and happiness on the eve of Rosh Hashanah.
The Board of Directors appointed a group of active past-Presidents to determine how to fill the vacancy created by Greg Franklin’s departure. They proposed that Bob Savage be elected as Club President for the remainder of Greg’s term. Bob was then elected (in absentia) by acclamation. A special election will take place on September 29th to elect a new president-elect to fill the vacancy Bob creates when he takes office next week. Next week will be the annual visitation by District Governor Grant Engle. The meeting will be presided over by Fullerton Rotary Club vice-president Joyce Capelle. Jim Young introduced our special guest Paul Harris. Jim’s introduction gave us great insight into the background and upbringing of Paul, and then Paul himself talked of the development of Rotary, Rotary International, the first Community Service Project and the inception of the Rotary International Foundation. At the end of the program, Paul (as always) was given a standing ovation. Pres. Greg Franklin closed the meeting with, “It is not so important as to where we stand as it is in what direction we are going.”
