WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGY TODAY?
Our resident Psychologist, Dr. Jo Ann Bannock, brought us current on thescope of this Profession. There is neither discipline nor field of endeavor nor human experience that cannot benefit from the study of psychology. ---more under PROGRAM.
J Ritchy brought us to "Attention" by rising to lead in the Pledge. OOPS! The flag was placed on the wrong side the speaker's podium! Prez Bill Mathy rectified the first gaffe in his tenure by quickly correcting the error. Somemember of the NEWEST NINE may be ordered to protocol "Refresher Training". The pledge was restarted. The singers were a sextet strong: Leroy Fulton, Howard Wood, Jim Young, Janie Noppe (in summer BSA shorts!) Bob Savage, and Ray Ashcroft. (Bob Savage demonstrated his classic "entrechat" to inspire the singers.) Prez Mathy called for the "Thought for the Day". Dead silence. All eyes were turned to Don Bankhead."Who ME?" The Mayor rose to the occasion with a message reminding us that the Pledge was not just a perfunctory ritual. We should appreciate that it stands for 'FREEDOM' Impromptu, well spoken, Don. THE PROGRAM Dr. Jo Ann presented a very excellent video of the Psychology profession. It outlined the many facets that these professionals become involved in: Marketing, sports, Expert witnesses, Counseling, Therapy, Law Enforcement, Animal Research, Medical, the Brain and Behavior, Conflict Resolution, Business. Jo Ann has been involved in forensic cases where her expert testimony has made the difference in criminal cases. She has been a member of a number of college and university Psychology staff, viz, Fullerton College, Cal State Fullerton, Chapman University and USC. One of her interesting comments involved the role of neurons in human behavior. One Rotarian asked a provocative question: With the apparent increasing number of psychological problems in todays human experience (TV, media, et al), is there a nexus with the great number of psychologists now practicing? |
