Rota-Scribe: Bill Schenk

Craig Walker led the club in the pledge of allegiance followed by the Fullerton Rotary Boy's Choir (Griff Duncan, Ray Ascroft, Howard Wood, Bill Peloquin, Jim Blackburn, and Leroy Fulton). In honor of the Cal State Fullerton Titan Baseball teams appearance in the NCAA baseball championships commencing this weekend, the Choir led the club in the singing of a very somber and dignified rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" followed by "Smile", accompanied ably by pianist Don Ludwig.

Don Bankhead pinch-hit for slightly injured Buck Catlin and pulled a "thought for the day" right out of his . . . wallet! Don read a poem he holds near to his heart written by a high-school cadet from Homestead, Fla. that commemorated the price paid for freedom.

Town Crier Griff Duncan introduced visiting Rotarians, which included PDG's Rod Eide, Gene Scarbrough, Mike Abdalla, Jim Deboom, Bill Christensen and Paul Jones from East Moline, IL., and of course Dick Boyle (Trivia Question: which Visiting Rotarian is not a Past District Governor?).

Visitors included our newest Honorary Member Glenda Stroobant, plus Russ Kaufman, and Willa Vanderberg.

Mike Nomura graduated from newest nine by completing all his requirements and becomes fair game for all Fullerton Rotary Committee Chairpersons.

Bill Peloquin announced the eminent demotion of Mike Oates and distributed a wanted poster listing Prez Mikees aliass (the favorite being the Rhinestone Kid).. Demotion night will be western themed. That means wear what you would usually wear if you were attending a hanging!! Wednesday night, June 25 at 6 P.M. at the Crowne Resort and Hotel 12021 Harbor Blvd., Garden Grove. Call Bill Peloquin for a reservation.

Prez Mike, having so far eluded capture, committed yet another illegal card hoax for the weekly opportunity raffle. Being no dummy himself, Warren Wimer sold his winning ticket to visiting Past District Governor Rod Eide, who instantly lost his opportunity to one of Mikees loaded deck of cards.

Next Week: Craft Talks - Newest 9

June 25: Demotion @ Crowne Plaza

Recognitions:

Jim Blackburn recognized John Christensen for a round of golf played in Kingsville, Va., that John could not produce a greens fee receipt or a scorecard for. Bill McGarvey was recognized for his contribution of coffee for ROTC cadets at CSUF. Mayor Don Bankhead, City Manger Chris Meyer, and Director Paul Dudley cited for having their picture in the local news while dedicating the new Fire Station in West Fullerton.

Bill Peloquincelebrates his 65th birthday next week, as does Ray Hansen who will be 75. Harry Brown had the discretion not to divulge which birthday his lovely Helen will soon celebrate. Dick and Lelia Rocke celebrate their 44 anniversary while Chet and Marcia Schultz will celebrate their 59th!

Jim thought he was doing well enough to tell a Father O'Malley story that was politely received, but redeemed himself (hisself?) by concluding with a Thibodaux and Boudreaux story that made up for it. (When will Jim learn that weere a Thibodaux & Boudreaux type of audience?)

Past District Governor Rod Eide presented Fullerton Rotarian and Past District Governor Jim Vanderberg with a picture board commemorating the first ever Multi-district PETS meeting conceived and organized by then District Governor Jim. Rod and other PDGGs explained how Jim's vision revolutionized the training of incoming Rotary Club presidents.. The impact of Jim's ideas still are remembered by those who attended that meeting 25 years ago including Mike Abdalla, PDG who was present today.

Fullerton Rotary is proud of the impact Jim has had on Rotary International. Congratulations Jim and Willa!
