CSUF Professor Patrick Douglass Crispen gave us a state-of-the art presentation on the world of Powerpoint, Microsoft and Camtasio
--- more under PROGRAM, but you better have known what "POWERPOINT" means in today's computer world!
We assembled in the Dr. James D. Young Rotary Room at CSUF and the box lunch repast was provided by CSUF. Everybody dutifully took classroom seats (The backs swivel back! Those hardchairs of public school are a thing of the past for today's college student body!) Following the Pledge, PRES OATES asked someone to hum a B flat to cue the Rotarians assembled for "SMILE". No takers, so as BOB CLARK, JR. allowed that his singing would always "be flat", the brethren and sistren followed his lead acapella in B "really" flat. No piano being available, DON LUDWIG" gave the "Thought for the Day". It was a great story about a Scotch nobleman who befriended the son of a poor Scottish farmer and paid for his education. The boy grew up to be the physician who developed penicillin, Dr. Alexander Fleming. Years later, the son of the wealthy Scotsman was spared death from a disease by the use of penicillin. That was Winston S. Churchill. As DON concluded, "What goes around, comes around". VISITORS: DICK BOYLE , Fullerton Sunrise. (He noted with gratification the Club's applause was 10 decibels higher than the last time he did a make-up here!). VISITORS: JANIE NOPPE guest of LEE BROCKETT ; DIANE MASSECH-JONES guest of TERRI GRASSI; TONY LAGOMARSINO guest of BILL MATHY; ANNOUNCEMENTS: CSUF "VISIONS AND VISIONARIES" - Sat April 28th at Embassy Suites Brea will honor DR. JIM YOUNG. A group of Rotary tables (with subscribing Rotarians) is contemplated. More later. SANTA ANITA RACE Rotary Family Fun Event. Terri Grassi is organizing a Day at the Races on a Saturday afternoon in the future. She has a circular for all to fill out expressing their preferences. PASS THE WORD ! YWCA of No. CO. Chocolate Fantasy February 28, 2003. MIKE OATES follows a Rotary tradition as "YWCA's 2003 Man of the Year. (He is the heir apparent to CHIEF PAT MCKINLEY, 2002 reignee.) |
ROTARY DISTRICT GOVERNORS visiting in O.C. on Thursday Jan 30th. Rotary hosts for dinner and social are needed. See JIM YOUNG for details. RAFFLE NO. 2562 didn't do BILL KINCAID any good 'cause he crapped out in PREZ MIKE'S illegal crap table. (He shudda claimed "foul" 'cause only ELKS Club members are permitted to participate in games of chance on Elks property. RECOGNITION: Lee helmsman Recognition Chairman JIM WILLIAMS took the rudder. KEN KAISCH got mast for an alleged rotator cuff surgery but not displaying any bandages. (What vigorous wrist activity trauma does a man of the cloth experience at the manse?) JIM YOUNG (AKA PAUL HARRIS) FINED $50,000 to be paid off in $500 installments. This means JIM will only have 100 more Paul Harris presentations at the present stipend rate. The City of Fullerton "Newscaster" recognized Rotarians PAUL DUDLEY and JOYCE CAPELLE. PAUL for fine quality work of his Development Service Department; JOYCE for her nice note of thanks to members of CHIEF PAT MCKINLEY's FPD. THE PROGRAM: "USING ADVANCED COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM OR IN BUSINESS" Speaker DOUG CRISPEN launched into a mesmerizing display of skill in state-of-the-art use of advanced techniques of POWERPOINT. ( A cursory view of the faces of the Rotarians present indicated 25% understood what Microsoft Producer, CAMTASIO and EXCEL were; 45% were with him on PCs and DESKTOP; 30% thought POWERPOINT had something to do with ingnition timing on PRE-1947 automobiles. We were all reassured that mastering this arcane technology was easy. "Cool", as DOUG put it. The lesson learned from this dazzling presentation was that high level computer technology and programing is here to stay and the tools of business and engineering trade need to be mastered. PREZ MIKE enjoined the Rotarians to be "mess strikers" and police their box lunches as CSUF janitorial staff will probably be reduced when the State Legislature gets around to the CSU budget.
