ROTARY CLUB OF FULLERTON HOSTS THE ANNUAL PICNIC-SOFTBALL-BARBECUE SOIREE AT RALPH CLARK REGIONAL PARK

MAJOR "BRAVO ZULU" to TERRI GRASSI for putting the event together as Chairperson. Ably assisted by DEAN HEISER, attired in dapper straw just like a "candy butcher" at Anaheim Stadium hawking hot dogs, peanuts and light refreshments and JIM MCKAMY supervising the kids games.

PLAY BALL ! !

The Fullerton Rotary Softball Teams assembled took the fields for a triple header with SOUTH and SUNRISE leading off the competition. Sunrise's WAYNE PATTERSON, six week old hip replacement and all, pitched the whole game, but was tagged for 17 South runs while CAPT DAVE SCHULMAN's worthy's could only eke out 3 runs. He claimed a 5-run "disabled player" handicap, but was booed down by fans.

The Second contest found a chaistened Sunrise team getting its act together with a convincing 26 to 8 drubbing of Fullerton Main. Jeff Hutchinson's home run heroics buoyed the Main spirits of JOHN CHRISTENSEN, RICK CRANE, RICK PRICE, VERNE ANDREWS, CHRIS HUNT, MINARD DUNCAN, GREG FRANKLIN, CHRIS LOWE,BILL HITE, DAMON DRAGOS, and DREW NAPOLIN as the debacle developed. BILL MATHY was unable to effect disqualifications of some alleged Sunrise ringers.

The consolation match between Main and South was more like a football contest with Main winning by a field goal 17-14. The final tally for the Rotary City Trophy went to South with 31 points followed by Sunrise's 29 and Main in the cellar with 25.

MVP ROTARY MAIN Honors went to power home run hitters, JEFF HUTCHINSON, GREG FRANKLIN and JOHN CHRISTENSON.

BRYAN FAIRLEY'S BIG '" B" BARBECUE & OFF-CAMPUS PUB catered the group feed with chicken breasts, beef, potato salad, hot dogs, vegetable and whistle berries. Over-size ( and over-caloried!) cookies rounded out the meal.

OFF-THE-FIELD entertainment for the Clubs' small fry included face painting, balloon animals, a watermellon pinate and a magic show. Horseshoe pitching and volleyball was provided for the more sedentary Rotarians content to let their more athletic colleagues acquire the bruises and skin scrapes associated with senior softball.

One of the more entertaining events was the egg tossing contest led by Jim McKamy. Wally Bartelt and Bill Peloquin narrowly beat the Debra Koff / Dexter Savage team when Debra's egg catch dribble through her fingers. The kids won the event overall. They found that by allowing the egg to land in the sand, they could out-toss the adults!

This event was followed by the pie eating contest. We had 4 kids who delighted in getting their faces full of wipped cream and pie (no hands allowed!) The prize for the winners was another pie! (We actually gave another prize to each participant.)

MINARD DUNCAN, was delighted to close out the event celebrating his 70th birthday enjoining the Clown to lead the brethren and sistern in "HAPPY BIRTHDAY". A good time was had by all !
