Meeting opened by President Mike Our own barbershop quartet of Duncan, Young, Woods and Savage accompanied by Don Ludwig helped us with a rousing patriotic song and "Smile". Jon West provided the opening thought guided by the motto "service above self" and summarized by the two words that "love hurts". Visitors: Howard Wood came with his lovely wife Doris Announcements: · Jon West and Minard Duncan explained and thanked us for $1000 going to FEIS in expanding their New Vista program Raffle The "Mike Oates" raffle question was only for "old" Rotarians. As Grif Duncan was underage, he had to settle for the consolation prize of $10 from Mark Zane and forgo the full prize of $80 in the kitty. Fines, Brags, Birthdays and Anniversaries as presented by Chuck Munson: · Jon West fined as he flunked the 4 Way Test by breaking a promise not to go over 15 minutes in his opening remarks - $25 · Pat and Carolyn Tormey get the privilege of paying fines for incorrect birthdays and based on Dr. Blackburn's calculations and factors it rounded up to $100 - OUCH! |
· Dr. Blackburn also got to pay for the privilege of having a CSUF baseball team that is #1 in the country and softball team that is #7. I think that I finally figured out how the fine reached $80 (add the two rankings together and multiply by 10) · Bill Mathewson traveled 9000 miles over the United States in February and March. $1 per mile still seems fair to the people at my table · And going on that principle, $75,000 fine to Chris Fraschetti also seems fair based upon the square footage of the new addition to St. Jude that will be completed in 2004, but Chuck let her off with $100 Program: Craft Talks Cathy Gach: Influenced in her early years by Irish Catholic nuns, she has spent 31 years in the education field from grade school teaching to her present job as principal with Fullerton High School. Going on history based upon 10 year job histories with her prior employers, hopefully she will be retiring with us too. A rotarian for 7 years and mother of 2 children, she loves sports, the arts and her family. Thank you for a great talk Cathy. Mike Nomura: Mike is a local boy from San Marcos. He Learned community involvement and business management starting in 4-H. Mike found that a sow he named Norman, won in a greased pig contest made a much more intelligent pet than a dog. He went on to discover that an IRS auditor is someone a business owner never needed to see and that discovery drove him into the banking industry (people like to see him coming now). A father of two kids, he loves to go to Disneyland. (Disney may not like seeing him based upon the number of attractions that have closed since he started going there. We were able to count 13.) Through all this growing he has determined that work is important, but time with family is more so. Way to go Mike! Next Weeks Program: Science Project @ Parks Jr High.

From Parks J.H.School "Let Freedom ring" Project" Thanks to the entire mermbership of the Rotary club of Fullerton for your generous support of "Let Freedom Ring" . This original American play explores the visions and opportunities immigrantscdiscover as they become part of this great nation. This year's FSD budget cuts precluded any support from the District so that your continued support and financial encouragement is appreciated even more. Irene Strauss |
