Program #2 or Fullerton Goes to China

Dr. Dick Jones, City Council member, former mayor, retired surgeon, etc., reported on a recent trip to the Peoples' Republic of China by various Fullerton C of C types in support of trade.

Armed with souvenir baseball bats, and credit cards, Dick, Norma et al. flew to Beijingon China Eastern's commissar class (L1011). Between seeing the antiquities, shopping and various trade dinners. The Jones, John Kunau and nineteen other Fullertonians had a packed agenda for almost 8 days.

Their trip also included Shanghai, Suzhouand Hangzhou. Dick's discoveries on this trip included:

  • The Chinese invented many things, but not escalators or elevators
  • Discounts of as much as 80% can be obtained via bargaining
  • He does not like green tea, but was impressed by the skills of the tea salesman
  • The PRC is being de-Maoized, and Taiwan and the PRC are growing closer via commerce rather than conquest.
  • Rolex knock offs are less expensive in China than Mexico
  • The Chinese are friendly people who work very hard and seem to practice only "lower case" communism.

As usual, our member supplied programs are among the very best.

President Mike's parting quote came from Henry Ford- "Failure is an opportunity to begin again more intelligently."
