ROTARY CLUB OF FULLERTON HAS BANNER AWARD YEAR!
Our Club captures a Host of District Awards at Annual 5320 Conference |
|
Member participation in our Club  was recognized by the number of Banner Rosettes awarded to our club. INTERNATIONAL--- Claude Jones' team participated in El Sauzal Orphanage; with Frank Kawase in Group Studies Exchange. VOCATIONAL -- Chris Freschetti led a bevy of Club members in launching the Boat Float Regatta; the establishment of the CSUF Library Dr. James D. Young Rotary Room; Rotary Youth Leadership Awards; the TOP 100 Awards Banquets. CLUB SERVICE-- Terri Grassi and Bob Savage organized Social Events, Fellowship Luncheons and Dinners; Whale Watch Cruises; San Juan Under the Stars; CSUF Titan (YEAH!) baseball games; poker night and the annual Picnic-- all contributing to closer fellowship. COMMUNITY SERVICE -- Scott Dowds and Tom Meyer brought into focus those who participated in the highly successful Annual Concert, Community Investment Awards the Senior and Family Christmas Parties; the All FUHSD Track Meet. -- and the Club Sweepstakes was won by none other than our Web Master Bob Jahncke. Our Rotary Club Web site won the "BEST IN SHOW" for District 5320!! We now display the Governor's Citation on our banner. PrezzOates now reviewed the program order to showcase the formal, viz., SHHS Principal Damon Dragos' Physics Engineering Class Project No.5" design of a sea worthy (Strike that ! "POOL worthy) craft capable of transporting various (weight) Fullerton Rotarians in a cross pool amphibious voyage. Great Video presentation displaying our leaders' skill (?) in "MAN OVERBOARD!" techniques. (Praise the Lord all underway operations were launched from the shallow end!). No Rotarians negotiated the course with dry feet. Technical note: GANAHL Lumber Company estimated the total maximum cost of each vessel for paper, wood, glue and paint was $31.72. (The Navy can't launch a submarine for less than $3.0 billion--and it's designed to sink, anyway!) |
Next, Catherine Gach, FUHS Principal introduced a Senior class project of how to "WALK ON WATER" conducted by Instructor Rick Giannetti. Fascinating concept. One Rotarian was heard to remark this should be emulated by our political leaders, some of whom are better able pass water than walk on it. VISITOR: Bill Gillespie, Fullerton South. Architectural Engineering GUESTS: Rick Giannetti hosted by Catherine Gach; Cary Tamura, guest of Ray Hansen; Larry Blake, guest of Rick Crane; Nick David, guest of Pat House; Members of the FSD Maintenance Team - Gary Drabek, Danny Rush, Roger Selwalm and Dan Looney hosted by Cameron McCune. ALL MEMBERSSGAVE A STANDING OVATION TO OUR NEWEST MEMBER DENNIS O'CONNER, Retired CSUF Faculty (Economics) THE RAFFLE was a "sneaker". PREZ OATES>posed the same question as last week about which automobile company instituted parts standardization. Raffle winner Lee Brockett (absent last week) guessed "Colonel's Chicken" thus blowing the pot of $90. RECOGNITION was conducted by Carolyn Tormey. She blindsided Jim Williams into shilling an auction item for an initial bid of $23. Nobody bit on the ruse, and Jim had to poney up the $25.00. (She's a tricky doll, Jimmy!) The meeting (in reverse order))fielded the a' Capelle quintet and the pledge followed by a mini-sermonn"Thought for the Day" intoned by Ken Kaisch. Prez Oates quoted Football Icon Vince Lombardi's message to the Green Bay Packers of old, "Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit". NEXT WEEK's PROGRAM: MEMORIAL DAY presented by Burnie Dunlap.
