President Bill called today's meeting to order under the big-top on the lawn at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center. Pat House led the club in the pledge of allegiance before the singing began led by Jim Young, Ray Ashcroft, Mike Oates, and the irrepressible Chris Lowe. Chris also gave the Thought for the day and reminded us that congress has declared the entire month of May to be commemorated as Memorial Day!

Jim Blake introduced various guest and visiting Rotarians but without the aid of the usual visitor slips, had to rely on the honor system to get the job done. Table by table guests and visiting Rotarian were introduced. Their names will not be given here as to not risk misspelling. (Names of note were Visiting Big Bear Rotarian Big Bob McNutt, and Pamela Clark (wife of BC Jr). Pamela was introduced along with the rest of the ladies of the Board of Directors of the Muckenthaler Cultural Center

Drew Napolin became the newest Rotarian in the World. The members will have a better chance to welcome him to the club next week when he will be re-introduced to receive his name badge. Drew was inducted (briefly) by Ray Hansen, and Bob Sattler. He was sponsored by Winston Creel. Drew is the owner of Pacific Drive Insurance Services. Welcome Drew!

President Bill presented Rotarian of the Week honors to Chuck Munson for all the assistance he has provided with the club financials.

President Bill bestowed Pat House with the Rotarian of the Week title for arranging today's meeting at the Muck.

Jim Young reported that nearly 100 people took advantage of his gracious offer of tickets to see Grease at Cal State Fullerton!

The District Conference is May 17-19. The keynote speaker is Dick Ruttan, the flying man! See Prez. Bill for registration and hospitality details. The theme this year is "Celebrating Red, White & Blue".

Les Christensen has left Park Vista and is home now. We are all looking forward to seeing him at the next meeting.

Sergeant Major Blackburn recognized Chris Lowe for a published photo of himself attending a Presidential (Pres. George. W, that is) Conference on volunteering. Bill Mathy was also recognized for son Jeff's recent photo in the New York Times. See Bill for the latest news (or better yet, ask Bill for the Website and monitor Jeff's adventure yourself!). Jon West was recognized $31.50 for his birthday. Julie Kemp took the fifth, though Sergeant Major fined her $25.00 for her birthday. Dan Kiernan was recognized for his 65th birthday; Dale Schumacher paid a reminder fee for wife Martha's birthday. Jim Lapak was reminded of his and Judie's 35'" anniversary.

Pat House introduced Stacy Duck and Nick David who talked about the annual Muckenthaler Motor Car Festival May 11 through May 19. Stacy also talked about the marriage between Automobile art and Student art and invited to club inside the mansion after the meeting to view fine examples of each.

Next Week:    Rotary Scholars

We Get Letters... "Sincere thanks for the $2,000 Community Investment award! This will provide about 800 meals for the homebound Fullerton residents who do not qualify for other programs, mostly because of age. MOW delivers 7 routes in the 23 square miles of Fullerton to 91 individuals. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of Fullerton residents." - Eileen R. Young, VP, MEALS ON WHEELS

"The Rotary $500 donation will enable Richman School to give a new book to more than 900 students this year. Low-income students in this area are excited to get new books and are encouraged to read at home. They foster a lifelong appreciation for books, reading and learning. This gift also encourages much needed volunteers to return next year." - Yolanda McComb, Principal & Judy Sullivan, Richman School Project Facilitator.

"Thank you for your generous gift for our culinary program. We ordered chef pants to complete student uniforms. Also on order is a heavy stainless steel table for our 20-quart mixer. The Rotary Club of Fullerton is considered the best service club in our community and we can verify that statement." - Nancy Hunyadi, FUHS Culinary Academy Coordinator.

"Your generous gift helps keep HOPE alive. Gift was credited to Campus Ministries Mission for student trips and transportation to Mexico ." - Gordon D. Venturella, VP of Advancement, Hope University .
