Bill convened the meeting on this brilliantly sunny and clear afternoon. Mike Oates fingers were adequately warmed and he accompanied the Singing Wheels (Griff Duncan, Jim Young, Bob Savage, and Ray Ashcroft) to the tune of "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning" and "Smile." Greg Dyment led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Lee Brockett gave the thought for the day. Lee reminded us to not only count our blessings in this world, but to also consider how much Rotary is involved in making the world a better place to live.
Bill Schenk introduced visiting Rotarians and guests, which included a delegation from Yuma, Arizona; Past 5500 District Governor Dave Hossler and Don Cutlip; and John Capps from Morehead City, North Carolina. Visiting from a shorter distance was Juergen Milczewsky, from Brea Rotary. Guests included Dick Claus (Hansen), Drew Napolin (Creel), Jim McKamy (Bartelt), George Giokeris and Greg Bice (Franklin), and Professor Maurice Splichal, from our sister city in Japan (Oates).
Rotarian of the Week honors were bestowed on Ray Hansen for selling approximately 100 tickets to the recent Davis Gaines Concert. Ray was unable to attend the concert himself, having recently been involved in an automobile accident in which he suffered from injuries that will keep him home bound for a few more days.
Prez Bill thanked all that attended and helped out to make the concert a huge success that netted $25,000 that was divided into five Fullerton Charities.
Prez Bill pulled rank on Finemaster Blackburn by recognizing president-elect Mike Oates for his 60th Birthday. The club congratulated Mike with a heartfelt rendition of "Happy Birthday."
Rick Crane inducted the world's two newest Rotarians this afternoon. Amy Kluth sponsored and introduced Jim Hogg (past President of his former Rotary Club in Edina, Minnesota). Jim is the new Dean of the Western State University School of Law. Chris Fraschetti sponsored and introduced JoAnn Brannock, a clinical psychologist.
The Opportunity drawing was won and lost by Claude Jones who did not know any of jockey's Eddie Arcaro several nicknames.

The Council meets each Wednesday at 8:00 AM at the School of Optometry and all interested are encouraged to attend.
Always quick on his feet, Finemaster Jim Blackburn adapted a 'back home' story to a 'Cajon' story to the amazement of all assembled. He then launched into his weekly recognitions:

On Friday February 1st, the Fullerton Rotary room is to be dedicated in the library at Cal State Fullerton. In attendance will be Rotary International President, Rick King. More on these proceedings will be included in next week's addition of the Rotagram.
Program:
Jim Alexander, Chair of the Fullerton Business Council, presented the Business Council and what they are doing to enhance the Fullerton Community by helping to encourage the upgrading of blighted developments, and to encourage outside business to re-locate here. One of their biggest successes to date is to twist Dennis Ullrich's arm to move his company, Hydroflow to Fullerton. Thank you Dennis.
