Call to some semblance of order: Prez Bill called us to order promptly and Al Triay fought his way to the front to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. The "Singing Wheels" led those assembled in a lusty version of My Country Tis of Thee and Smile with Mike Oates at the keyboard and Keith Mills providing the obbligato. Tom Meyer offered a business advice appropriate to TAX SEASON.

Guests from Seoul to Fullerton. While Sandra Fryling approached the dais, Prez Bill told yet another Irish Priest story, but thoughtfully avoided any recent controversies. Upon arrival Sandra F. introduced a host of visitors (is that an oxymoron?): Jim McKamy was a guest of Wally Bartelt; Joann Forson was a guest of John Kunau; Pat House's guest was Hyung Ju; and the lovely and talented Ms Fryling was accompanied by Bobbi Robinson

Induction of Two New Members

Lee Myhre (who apparently leads the club in having been a member of the most other Rotary Clubs) presided ably over the induction of Howard Wood and Al Tetreault, Jr. Lee stressed attendance and community involvement.

Howard is a retired, but extraordinarily active, mechanical engineer whose talents include singing and community service. We do a lot of those things at Rotary. Howard may be one of the few persons who can and has led Bill Peloquin. They sing together in "Mid Life Crisis", an outstanding barber shop quartet.

Al is a life long Fullertonian and a key person for McCoy-Mills Ford. Al is apparently good at customer service. He even seems to have made John Phelps so happy with his new Continental that John risked and received serious fines for having heaped praise on a car dealership!!! Al Tetreault's sponsor for Rotary membership is Jana Bogart, who was "on holiday". Ms. Bogart had a energetic understudy in the person of Julianne Haynes.

We are thrilled to have each of these gentlemen in the Rotary Club of Fullerton.

Photo-voltaic Cells a Source of Renewable Energy

Standing in for Bob Sattler, who had been sent out of town by Greg Franklin (he must have really been in trouble with the principal!), was Leroy Fulton. Dr. Fulton introduced Greg Sharp of SCE, who provides technical support to SCE efforts to encourage the use of alternative sources of energy. Developed for use in the Space Program, photo-voltaic systems (PV) use the heat (infra-red) of the sun to directly generate electricity. They differ from "solar panels," which merely heat water or some other substance and substitute for electricity as a medium of energy. PV systems are technically feasible wherever there is unobstructed sunlight, and well suited as a substitute for the power grid, a supplement to the power grid or they can even re-direct electricity from a home or business back to the power grid. The latter can result in a reduction in one's power bill via "net metering", i.e. the meter can be made to reverse itself. Most of us have always wanted to do this. The cost can be financed; there are rebates. and the cost of installation is about 8-10 dollars per kilowatt. Under current figures and reality, the break even point on ROI is 10-15 years. This sounds better than a swimming pool. More info at www.sce.com and www.energy.ca.gov or something like that.
