Bill Peloquin opened the meeting by introducing Tony Amato who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Don Ludwig took over the piano playing from there and accompanied us on Smile and then entertained us with several musical selections while we prepared for lunch. The Thought for the Day was given by Ray Ashcroft who told us about the many musical contributions created by Irving Berlin that enhanced the lives of Americans through thoughts about history, holdidays, feelings and hopes. He concluded by masterly singing a beautiful rendition of God Bless America.. (He's really good!)

Question of the Week:

Bill Hite was close but not close enough in answering How Many Times Has Troy High School Won the Science Olympiad? Correct answer is 8 times.

Program:

Ray Hansen introduced Dr. Stuart Shanfield, Orthopedic Surgeon, who told us about advances in hip and knee replacement. He suggested that other options available should be considered before surgery, using joint replacement as the last resort. There is a 98% success rate and it does relieve pain. After surgery, most people can do pretty much what they want to do within reason.

President Peloquin closed the meeting with the following truism: The best way to forget your own problems is to help someone else solve theirs.
