August Minutes presented by Oates. Minutes approved as read.

Meeting opened with blessing from President Mike Oates.

Treasurer- Kawase: In good shape. Paying Elks Club $300 per month for facility retroactive to 4/1/02. Paid $1500. Sent $280 for Rose Parade Float. District requested $3 per member. We sent same as last year, $2 per member.

Guest- Owen Dean:  Eradicate Polio  $80 million goal.  Given a $25 million matching grant from the Gates Foundation.  Our club’s contributions to polio from 6/30/86 to 6/30/01 were $36,751.  Target goal for our club, (set by district), over the next three years is $24,308. Dean would like to present a program about polio at one of our meetings.  Goal for all three Fullerton clubs is $33,000, ($200-$300 per member). It was suggested we work with the other Fullerton clubs to raise the money. Try to pull donations from outside Rotary.  Need club coordinator to work with other 2 clubs.

President Oates: Presidents meeting tonight.  District is pushing license plates, membership and polio.  Not much interest in our club for license plates. Members prefer license plate frames because all the money goes to Rotary.  Need a committee to decide on frames. Pres will check catalog to see if available.

· Jim Young writing a letter to RI Pres Bhichai Rattakul inviting him to our Feb. meeting. Trying to establish us as only club to get RI to visit us. Devlin/King/Rattakul?

· Paul Harris Fellows-not enough recognition. Need to change this. Derek Niblo will fund a Paul Harris Fellow for someone.  Wally to work with him.

· We received a note of recognition from St Jude’s Foundation. Our name is on a plaque for our support to them.

· Concert awards-looking at establishing guidelines similar to community giving. Want to direct the money to specific project.

Club Service, Membership-Savage: Attendance for August 55.34%. Very low!  No new members/none lost this month.  Need to review policy for payment of guests’ meals. Need to keep new members interest. Reaffirm importance of attendance.

Club Service, Fellowship-Grassi: Picnic had 138 attendees. Down about 30 from last year. Cost $27.51 per person.  Next year need to look at softball competition. Outsiders should not be brought in. Should be Rotarians and family members.

· Mystery Night"-will plan for end of Oct/beg of Nov on Saturday night. Will probably give some hint to membership as to what we are doing.

Community Service General-Meyers: Concert Awards- new guidelines set up. Non-profit organizations must apply and meet guidelines to receive award. Deadline for application not set yet, maybe end of Oct.

Club Service, Youth-Hewett: Interact Club at Fullerton HS wants to come to 9/18 meeting to update us.  Will meet with Interact advisor and new principal.

Sunny Hills HS-Damon Dragos to try to get Interact Club going.

International Service-Jones:  Mexican orphanage project-Oceanside Rotary wants to work jointly with us.  Two people from that club are already involved with the orphanage.  Rick/Jeff/Wally to go down to put $amount on projects. Then talk to Ensenada clubs and RI to see how to accomplish.

Vocational Service-Fraschetti: Passed out summary.  Joyce Capelle is working with Bob Sattler re: Crittenton scholarship.
