July Minutes presented by Jahncke. .Minutes Approved as read.
Meeting opened with blessing from President Mike Oates.
President Oates opening comments: First Tuesday is the Presidents Meeting at the Phoenix club. As usual, the Membership is a top issue, plus district awards. Jana Bogart and Nate Kvetny will be in charge of reports.
● District is putting pressure to sell Rotary License Plates. There seems to be pressure from several members use frames rather than plates - that way, more of the “donation” will benefit our club, and the cost should be less.
Leave of Absence requests:● Ray Ashcroft, Ken Kaisch, Win Miller all have LOA approved effective from July 1. The means these members will not be billed for meals for 6 months.
● James Ko sent in a “strange” letter requesting “non-membership” Ronnie Hewett to follow up.
● Mike requested that all new member sponsors should follow the new member, give them a call if they cannot attend.
● Chamber of Commerce membership renewal.
● $150 for Dare program for 1000 trading cards.
● Call for District Governor Nominees.
● $3 per member assessment ($1 increase) for Rose Bowl float costs.
Club Service, Membership - Bob Savage
54.8% attendance - was low by standards. 137 members. No new members in hopper.
Club Service, Fellowship - Terri Grassi:.
Good time at “Concert under Stars” at Mission SanJuan.
Family Picnic on Aug 23 2pm to 8pm. Costs estimated to be $27.31 per person, based on 150 attendees. There will be volley ball, horseshoes, games for the kids, a clown, a pinata.
Club Service, Youth - Ronnie Hewett:
A schedule of youth activities, showing that most events are in the spring, from February on.
International Service - Claude Jones: -
Claude showed us several projects in Mexico that we could participate with, where we can visit and see the results. An orphanage project seemed to have the most flexbility to work with. Apparently, RI does not want to match funds with building projects. A local Mexican club should improve our chances of a matching grant.
Community Service General - Tom Meyers:
After significant discussion, it was decided to have the Kingston Trio for our fund raising concert this year, on February 7 - Friday; tickets to be $40 per seat.Minutes written by Bob Jahncke, September 1, 2002
