Next meeting scheduled for June 12th.
Meeting called to order. Blessing was given by Fulton.
Minutes were approved.
Special thanks to Mike Oates for a fabulous Top 100 banquet. Need to find a way to shorten the Fullerton High program. We didn’t get out until after 11:00pm. Most of the Rotarians had left before the final cleanup. Special thanks to Mike Escalante, and his assistant for the wonderful office help to get the project together.
Kincaid: Treasurer’s Report
- Good financial shape. $17,000 in checking. Total of approx $48,700 in bank. Sunrise and South have paid; district has not paid for the Frank Devlin meeting. A 2nd bill to be sent.
- Apparently Ray Melahn had left an insurance settlement to the foundation. Form needs to be filled out. Bartelt to do.
Franklin: Community Service - Youth
- June 11th is date for student concert. Only event left in his section.
Oates: Club Service, Membership
- Bob Savage would like to continue as doing the paper work for attendance and New-Nine. Bob needs another person to take charge of the New-Nine. Possibly Pete Magowski.
- Perhaps we should do our attendance computation differently to up the percentage attendance. We need a computation of A/E’s that have attended to find out a better computational method.
- Poor attendance people: Alan Atwell just returned from Washington. Mickey Cheng still busy with his new business. John Cheshire will be resigning; John Davis is working Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Mark Geiss, Winnie Houston, Juan Martinez, and Mitch McCollum all missed meetings in April.
- Brian Chung, by Danial Kang, Structural Engineering, works out of his home. Steve Berry, proposed by Phil Silverman, mayor of Buena Park, brother of Franki Berry. James Ko, proposed by Ronnie Hewett; he is an Acupuncturist and herbalist; lives and works in Fullerton. All three approved.
Mathy: Vocational Service
- Vocational awards to be done in tomorrow, by Mark Zane.
Amato: International Service
- 48 Foreign Exchange Students from the Midwest are due in June 24-25 (Sun-Mon). Need to have a person in charge of dogging the need for homes.
Presidents Report:
- District Assembly June 1st, at the Hyatt Newporter. Tom Meyer to be the chair for the event. Looking for $400 from each club.
- No word back from Freeway advertising program.
- District is requesting money for an Aids Awareness program - $200. Motion to deny the request for funds - that this project is best supported directly by the individual clubs.
- Elks Lodge will no longer be serving the food at Wednesday lunch. Arbor Manor will be taking care of the meals.
Other Notes and Comments:
- Mike Oates pointed out that the Ebel club needs some support. Mike to head an assessment committee to look into replacing chairs or what other assistance we might provide. Mike to report back in 2 weeks. May have to provide $5,000 or so to do a significant job. There is concern that the Ebel club could go under.
- We have $15,000 in "limbo" with the Foundation; if we do not use it, we lose it. We may have a similar surplus situation this year. It was suggested that we might match funds to get more Paul Harris Fellows from our club. Jim Young ccurrently matches new member donations; we could add to that program to further more Paul Harris Fellows.
- Charitable Donation letters should go out early June to connect the responses with the billing periods. Last year 1 letter was written, and the responses were low compared to the earlier requests when 2 letters were sent.
Minutes written by Bob Jahncke, May 30, 2001.
