PROGRAM
Glynnes Pruett presented her craft talk, giving us an opportunity to learn more about the “blue hair” Rypen president and her 20 year history with the specialized hobby turned profession of comic book collecting. Born in Macon, Georgia, Glynnes grew up in Orange County and is the oldest of 6 siblings born girl boy girl boy spaced 2 years apart. She has enjoyed a variety of experiences like working as a DJ and director of Cal State Fullerton’s radio station, working with wild animals at a preserve, involvement with comedy for 7 years. When a friend suggested that she focus on a path for her life in addition to “tom boy” and” free spirit”, Glynnes realized her passions are doing good, helping and encouraging others, making others happy, she saw the possibilities that her enjoyment of comic book collecting could become a business, she opened “Comic Book Hideout” at age 25, the most challenging thing she has done. Her website is: www.comicbookhideout.com For the past 2 1/2 years she has offered classes which help kids learn to make their own comic books and create their own stories. Glynnes pointed out that all of the good stories in books, films plays have a solid theme where the protagonist is faced with choices that can have profound impact on his/her future. The significance of making wise decisions and being accountable for them is an underlying aspect that good stories address.
Glynnes told of some great opportunities to purchase comic books that allowed her to quickly expand from 1000 sq ft to 3000 sq ft. in less than a year. It was great to hear some of your many stories, Glynnes!
