Volume 76 Issue 4 Click for Photos of Taco Night Rota-Scribe: Wolf Knabe
Dan & Susan Ouweleen Open the Activities
Prez Dan started the meeting off by trying to get the attention of all the attendees. It was a little difficult because of the free first margarita. Seems when alcohol is consumed, voices become louder.

Once our Prez put his executive power into full swing, the crowd settled down and we were able to start the meeting. Well, calling it a meeting is a little stretch; since there was no real business conducted and no program. But the food and music were great, and the company was outstanding.

The meeting started off with the pledge given by Chief Wolf Knabe, followed by the prayer given by Judy Atwell. There was no song master because there were no songs. Well, there was some singing but the song master was the margaritas. Couldn’t really make out the music though!

There were too many guests to introduce otherwise we would be there all night, so Prez Dan just acknowledged the great jazz trio from Fullerton College. They did a great job and we were fortunate to have them!

Prez Dan introduced many of our RYPEN members and also our District Rep George Wilson. He thanked all those that were involved with the decorating for our taco night..

Larry Bennett was acknowledged for just coming back from his 240 mile John Muir Trail backpacking trip. Way to go Larry!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Chief Pat McKinley who just had prostate surgery and with Dick Jones who recently had gall bladder surgery. Best wishes to both!

Thanks to Janny Meyer, Hilda Sugarman, and Dr Bob Pletka who were responsible for the wonderful dinner we had tonight. It was their idea and the donation came from a prize won at a past “Toast to Learning” fundraiser at the Arboretum. This year’s fundraiser will again be at the Arboretum on October 8th. Please get tickets and attend to support the great cause.

We had no formal program but had a great time as Rotarians, enjoying good food and each other’s company. There was no ticket drawing, hence no winner. Until next time!

Our next meeting will be at the Elks Club on 8/3.

On a sad note: Gordon Bagne passed away this weekend. There will be a memorial service for Gordon on Aug 5, at 11:00 am, at the the Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach.
