Daybell’s final voyage began at 12:25 as we pushed off dock with no guarantee that we would return to port.
Shipmates Scott Scambray, Julia Kemp and Allyn Lean were welcomed back aboard after a long leave.
Greg Hickman led bewildered sailors in a reassuring invocation.
Dick Jones kept things on course as he led the crew in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Griff Duncan disrupted meeting with his boatswain’s whistle reminding people that the sinking ship will leave port next Wednesday evening – Demotion Night for landlubbers.
Special Guests were introduced including Laura Murcia, Joya scholars, guest of Larry Bennett; and Wilma Peloquin – guest of Bill.
Other notables included guests of the captain Tom and Katie Dalton, Fullerton Heritage; Claudia Armando, Coast to Coast Foundation; Dale Merrill and Patricia Falcon, CSUF department of music. The Captain’s good wife, Lois was also aboard to help make sure the ship docked safely.
Joe Arnold – Captain assisted with presenting a check for $6,000 for scholarships to CSU Fullerton.
Captain presented Coast to coast Foundation was presented a grant proceeds from the concert to assist the homeless population.
Captain Daybell also acknowledged Tom and Katie Dalton of Fullerton Heritage and presented them with a grant for their preservation efforts in Fullerton. Funds will be used on the Amerige Brothers Building and Amerige Park in downtown Fullerton.
Announcement: Larry Bennett is raising dollars for scholars and is looking for people to bet against him on his hike through the Sierras. Theresa Harvey announced that the Fullerton Community Band would be celebrating Independence day with a July 2 concert at Fullerton College, 6 p.m. The FREE concert is sponsored by Rotary Club of Fullerton.
Court martial began as the proceedings were called to order by Captain … and the list of those being charged was lengthy (below is the abridged version)!
He recognized his grandfather Frank Daybell, as the first Rotarian he ever met. The sentimental captain wove a tale of his history in Rotary going back to 2004 and his voyages on the open seas dating to 1999.
Captain Daybell solicited assistance from Burbank, Mcfarland and Hickman during the tribunals.
Griff Duncan was recognized as the ships Song Leader
Greg Hickman (aka Duck man) was acknowledged for being the ship’s spiritual leader among other accomplishments.
Randy McFarland, kept the ship’s log (Rotogram) among other dealings
Larry Bennet, acknowledged for Rotary Care.
Dave Holtzer, kept the new crew members in line and often acted as casino cashier during the cruise.
Don Ludwig, acknowledged as the band leader.
Terri Grassi, helped keep the foundation books balanced.
Bill Hite, contributed as Foundation Board member and contributor.
Vern Andrews, headed the foundation and made sure we had funds to give back to the community.
Bill Mathy, recognized as recognition master chair throughout the cruise.
Rick Crane, Club sports director and all around good guy.
Francis Hunter, made sure those who had developed sea sickness or other illnesses were cared for.
Miko Krisvoy, member of the year in 2014, continued to head the top 100 dinners among other things.
Zoot Velasco, developed the satellite club concept in the District and recruited young crew members before deserting the ship for the central valley.

Susan Smith, made sure songs were on every cruise.
Theresa Harvey, provided shore accommodations for the board meetings, led songs and helped navigate other activities.
Andre Fahie, lowered the average age of the crew and coordinated the activities of new recruits.
Bob Jahncke, web designer and master, world traveler, helped educate the captain and kept the board on course.
Kim Barlow, Cruise Yeoman, song leader has helped keep the ship in order sometimes as “safety officer”
Mike Cochran, incoming board member, was acknowledged for each week’s entertainment (programs)
Dan Kiernan, personally responsible for the Captain throwing 20 pounds of unwanted blubber overboard, was named the ship’s fashion designer.
Jim Williams, was reprimanded as an agitator whose only redeeming quality is his lovely wife, Sally.
Bill Schenk, nominated as Chief Mutineer.
Joe Lins, acknowledged for positive, motivating nature.
Minard Duncan, recognized as chief tooth extractor and philanthropist.
Sandy Hayes, organized countless shore excursions.
Scott Dowds, retiring board member, has assisted in many programs and was noted as mentor for the caption.
Cathy Gach, honored with a plaque to accompany on her voyage to Oregon, was acknowledged for keeping the ships treasury in balance.
Dan Ouweleen, crew leader of the year, has helped guide the ship from behind the scenes as he prepared to take over the duties as president for next year.
Judy Atwell, recognized in absentia, was honored as the club’s member of the year. The award was received by Dan Kiernan and Terri Grassi who will deliver to her the honor, recognizing her for hours of services in many areas as well as for her positive attitude at club meetings and events.
The Captain extended thanks to all as he sails into the sunset.
