The meeting started off with the pledge given by
Don Bankhead, followed by the prayer given by
Randy McFarland. Our song master was
Susan Smith, who led us in “
Row, row, row, your boat”. I think we will sing that until we get it right! It went better today.
The infamous Safety Officer, Jim Williams was up to his old tricks by calling for a safety drill. He forced tables to participate or else they would be fined. And he wasn’t even the fine master! Give a man a whistle and a hat and he thinks he can do anything! The Safety Officer reiterated the June 29th “Last Day at Sea” celebration for our Captain Dick. It will be at 1800 hours (6 pm for you non-sailors) at the Elks Lodge. Be there or be flogged. Please RSVP to Jim Williams.
The President of the Elks welcomed us back to the Elks Lodge after many years away.
Chief Wolf Knabe introduced our guests, Nancy Hanson, wife of Ray Hanson, and Jackie Williams, guest of Marty Burbank.
Announcements included:
• Pat McKinley did not have stints put in after all, they were not needed!
• Jim Blake is out of the hospital and at home doing well.
• Thanks to Bill Schenk, Bob Sattler, Joe Lins, and Bob Muschek for helping us relocate to our new port at the Elks Lodge. Hopefully Captain Dick can sail us better out of this port during his last couple sailings?
• On June 9th there will be a joint Board Meeting at the Elks Lodge during lunch. And no a joint meeting does not have anything to do with our presentation today or a future item on the ballot in November.
• Kim Barlow and her band will be playing at the plaza tomorrow (Thursday).
• Volunteer T-Shirts are available up to sizes 3XL
The Recognition Master was Larry Bennett. He did a great job with not a lot of people to fine. But he did get a couple:
Carl Camp was fined for his rotary anniversary on 6/1. His dad was his sponsor. It was also his first day of retirement. Congrats and now pay the fine.
Dick Jones was fined for his 38 year Rotary anniversary on 6/1. Way to go Dr.!
Joe Lins was fined for his 12 year Rotary anniversary on 6/2. Don Bankhead and Jim Blake were his sponsors, so yell at them, not at me.
Carol Tormey has not been seen since she was on a milk carton as a missing person, but she was here today! Welcome Back!
Marty Burbank was fined for his 3rd wedding anniversary. Congrats to Marty and Saint Seon for putting up with him for 3 years.
Lou Kuntz was fined for his 7 year rotary anniversary. Dr. Jones was his sponsor. June 1st is also the anniversary of a fire decades ago at his house where he, his wife, and children all escaped with no injuries.
Raco was fined for his 27 year rotary anniversary. Raco you’re not that old!
Jeff Hutchison was fined for his birthday, his anniversary, and his wife’s birthday. He is the triple-crown winner for this week!
Pastor Hickman fined himself, a special thanks for those that helped his church on “Love Fullerton Day” and the two weeks following. Thanks to all for such a great cause.
Our program featured Nick Morrow, a retired detective from LA County Sheriffs. He represented a group called, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP). This group believes we should end drug prohibition. The group was formed in 2002 and now has over 150,000 members and supporters.
Its mission is to prevent the multitude of unintended harmful consequences resulting from fighting the war on drugs, and to reduce the incidence of death, disease, crime, and addiction by ending drug prohibition.
The topic is controversial to say the least and the presentation gave food for thought. Contact the group for more information at www.CopsSayLegalizeDrugs.com.
Prez Dick called out the lottery ticket winner, but unfortunately, Bob Sattler did not pick the blue chip to win the money. Better luck next time.
Is it just me, or do we need to redo our pictures for the roster? I’m just saying. (NOTE FROM PUBLISHER: WHENEVER YOU WANT A NEW ROSTER PHOTO, PLEASE SEND A FRESH HEADSHOT TO ME . . .rj)
Our next meeting will be on June 8th at the Elks Club.
