Volume 75 Issue 42 Rota-Scribe: Joe Arnold

Today our cruise took us on an excursion to the Muckenthaler Cultural Center where our captain Dick Daybell brought our attention the return of our Rotarian brother Ted Kim, who was on shore leave knocking down cancer thanks to God with the assistance of physicians! Ted was invited to sit at the head table….Welcome back Ted!

Opening Traditions

Pledge, song and Invocation were handled ably by Don Ludwig, Theresa Harvey and Ken Kaisch respectfully.

Announcements

Ron Bradford of Christian Life Center was introduced by our captain, was our contact person at CLC before, during and after the Love Fullerton painting project. In all about 32 people helped in varying degrees, many of which were Rotarians. Thanks to all! Our captain has been putting many “after hours” hours in at CLC to make sure this project meets his high standards. Ask him if there is more to be done if you can make more time to help. He received a nice ovation for his efforts which was well deserved!

June 1st will be our first day at the Elks Lodge. June 4 is our Rotary Cares Day from 7:30AM to 3PM at Richman School 700S Richman Ave. contact Joe Lins if you’d like to assist. District Conference is this weekend and our president will be there, representing us.

Jim Williams announced “The Event”, formerly known as Demotion Night.

It will be at the Elks Lodge on the last Wednesday evening of June 29, starting at 6PM. Bring your spouse or significant other.

Dr. Richard Jones told us that Pat McKinley is headed to Hawaii on a secret R&R mission prior to a late May prostrate surgery and has a good prognosis, we are glad to hear!

Recognitions

Joe Arnold received a very warm standing ovation I’ve only seen matched when he was introduced at the Cal State Fullerton Performing Arts Center.

Joe started right in by fining Dan Kiernan, NOT for wearing shorts, but for his birthday. Bob Clark’s wife Pam was the reason for the fine he was assessed.

May 15 will be Lee Brocket’s Rotarian anniversary, which he remembered confidently. Some members were asked trivia questions to avoid fines and did quite well, like Jim Williams and Scott Dowds. A quote from past NY Yankees manager Casey Stengel was, “Managing is getting paid for other’s home runs.”

Program

Zoot Velasco, hosting our off-site meeting started by apologizing for not having cars for the meeting and explained that Rotarian friend Andy Ersek is dealing with an auto-immune disease and wasn’t able to make arrangements or to bring his own cars. Zoot announced that he will be taking on a position as the CEO of the Kern County Museum in Bakersfield. He mentioned that they have 51 historical buildings which are being set up on streets as an old town. He looks forward to taking on new challenges there in another 6 weeks after setting up so many programs for the Muckenthaler. He will be involved in the initial search for a replacement of his position at the Muck.

Zoot reviewed the many things the Muck is involved with, like outreach programs for homeless shelters, STEAM program for high school kids, Community Quinceanera for 25 girls in July, the big Car Show this weekend. He is particularly proud of the online virtual tours available on the Much Website. Click on “Virtual Tours” and look around 360 degrees where you want at the Muck!! Many awards have been bestowed upon the Muck. The website is www.theMuck.org..

Upcoming dates to include Zoot: June 26- Solstice Festival

Sept. 30. Gala- Zoot will be master of ceremonies.

Zoot was pleased to be presented his own thumb drive along with a holder!

The Muck, Fullerton Rotary, the City of Fullerton and our community have been fortunate to have Zoot and Monette along with their musical and entertainment talents and their positive, inclusive “can do” collaborative talents! Best Wishes, Zoot and Monette!
