Invocation – John Derry Gave thanks for all we have

Pledge of allegiance was led by Bob Radde.

Nissa Newton led us in a rambling rending of Grand Old Flag followed by SMILE .

Zoot drew the number and Bill Hite was the lucky recipient – Bill drew the Ace of Spades and the pot continues to grow.

Brags were offered by Bob Hathaway whose grandson, Dominic Thacker (#5), scored his 10th touchdown last Friday for Troy High School.

Thad Sanford announced that he doesn’t have a birthday but that his wife does He will be celebrating with dinner and a trip to Texas.

Chuck Munson was recognized first of all for being here and second for participating as a model in Walk Among the Stars, St. Jude’s fundraiser for cancer. Congratulations for giving back! $1 was collected from everyone in the room except Chuck.

Rotarian’s were reminded that Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is Friday.

Announcements

Bob Muschek asked Rotarians who don’t need paper copies of the club bill to let him know by registering on the papers at the tables.

Rick Crane announced that Rotary Foundation room after the meeting today.

Coach Dan (Oweleen) wasn’t present but Verne Andrews, Terry Ott, Meg Crider, Judy Fancher, and Bob Muschek were singled out for encouraging high school students to participate in the Jog-a-Thon. Those honored for raising monies for their clubs and End Polio were: Fullerton High School ASB - $7920; Sunny Hills ASB - $16,080.15; Sunny Hills Staff Club - $60; Troy Warriors – $2,201.

Funds were also awarded to Fullerton Elementary Schools, Beechwood Elementary, La Vista, and Nicholas ASB.

Today is the last day to complete applications for Rotary Foundation Grants.

There were no visitors or guests present.

David Slomovic sponsored by Joe Lins, was induced as the newest member of Rotary Club of Fullerton. Welcome David. David was presented with the appropriate regalia by President Lee. Welcome to our newest Rotarian.

Program was introduced by Minard Duncan -- members of the Orange Empire Chorus – “Triglyceride Plus One. ” Orange Empire Chorus helped Fullerton Rotary Club of Fullerton fund the Arts Bus that participates in All The Arts for All The Kids programming. The OEC is celebrating 75 years of music making and offers their popular Singing Valentine Program each year. Motivational message of the day – noted that singing can improve you health and lead to a happier life. Tip for the day—take a deep breath and sing a note. See how long you can sustain it and add to it each day!

They are looking for new members who want to join the fellowship and sing their way to better health. Rehearsals are every Tuesday night, 7 pm. at Fullerton High School.
Highlights of the program included barbershop quartet style arrangements of:
· Hi Neighbor
· Lida Rose (from the Music Man)
· LOVE Is Made for You and Me-- L is for the way you look at me ..
· Good Bye My Coney Island Baby

The quartet emphasized the benefits of singing and participating in the barber shop quartet movement. In particular they highlighted the medical benefits of singing including:
· Stronger and healthier lungs
· Stronger immune system
· Increased alertness and better memory
· Cardiovascular exercise
· Improved posture
· Wards off depression
· Creation of interpersonal relationships

Simply put, people who sing are healthier than those who don’t. They call it the “Three H Club” Happy, Harmonious, Healthy Fun!

For those interested their Christmas Cabaret program is coming up Friday evening, Saturday matinee and evening. The program is held at the La Habra Community Center on December 6 & 7.

Lee Brocket recognized them by providing a Dream Catcher so they follow the same dreams as Rotary does.

Members were reminded that tickets are available for opportunities to win amazing prizes at the Rotary Conference upcoming. Rotary District 5320 Annual Foundation Dinner will be held on Saturday November 9, 2013. Among the prizes being offered are: One week Hawaiian Vacation, One week during the Bob Hope Classic in Palm Desert, Golf Getaway at Temecula Creek Inn. Tickets are only $10 each and will be available for purchase at the upcoming meetings of Rotary Club of Fullerton
