Short Timer as Prez, Pat McKinley opened the meeting and thanked Bob Sattler for presiding over the meeting last week. Dr. Dick Jones led us in the flag salute. Deacon Jay Milan led us in prayer and included Wally Bartelt and Bob Fisler in his thoughts. Maryalyce Jeremiah and Dr. The Chief took over introductions of visitors and guests: Visitor - Andy Ersek from Guest - Roland Chi - Daniel Kang Joe Lins announced the following: - Fullerton Sister City Association has fundraisers for two groups of kids going to - There will be a Jazz Festival at The Muck on Thursdays at 8 p.m. from May 21 to June 25. - Our treasurer, - Bob Radde and Lauralyn Eschner announced an Elementary Music Benefit Concert will be on June 5th at 7 p.m. at Plummer Auditorium. The concert is sponsored by our club. Funds raised will be used to attempt to save the 5th and 6th grade instrumental music program that has been eliminated. There will be a silent auction, raffle and refreshments. |
Fine Master Bill Klinghoffer had all the Rotary Club officers to stand and be applauded and then fined each one of them. Mark Geiss was fined $3 for his wife Lynette's birthday and Diane Masseth-Jones was fined $3 for her husband Tim's birthday. Randy McFarland's birthday cost him $3. Other fines were levied on Bob Hilhouse for being a daredevil, John Phelps for being a world traveler, Don Bankhead and Dr. Dick Jones for just being themselves, and Bill McGarvey for no reason that I could tell. Newest nine members Blake Smith, Debbie Sanchez, Zoot Velasco, Pat Hartnett, Gary Goodson, Dan Ouweleen, and Dean Stockwell were fined for completing all of their jobs. Sally Williams and Sandy Hayes were fined for doing a good job on parties. Allyn Lean won the raffle and chose T.V. Shows as the category but could not name Lilly as The Munster's wife. Did you know that Lou Gehrig hit 23 grand slam homeruns? J Ritchey introduced Dr. Desai, our speaker from Newport/Balboa Rotary Club, who talked about Deafness In India. The Deafness program started in 1998 and had two main goals; prevention of deafness nationwide and measles and rubella vaccinations. The highest incidents of death by measles is in Dr. Desai emphasized the importance of fellowship and friendship in Rotary International and told the story when he met four Boston Audiologists at a convention. They wanted to help. And help they did. They trained 100 India health care workers on early hearing loss detection and intervention. The Audiologist also provided equipment for newborn hearing screening. And, they continue to support the program. What a great job they did! Dr. Desei thanked our club for the support we have given.
