Volume 65, Issue 47 | Rota-Scribe: Randy McFarland |
Opening traditions: After generating a heartfelt “Good afternoon, Joyce!” from the weekly assemblage of Rotarians, Joyce Capelle immediately asked Claude Jones to lead us in the pledge to our country, which he aptly did. Howard Wood’s enthusiastic leadership on vocals got us through “Let it Be Me” and “Smile”, with Don Ludwig tickling the ivories. Mike Oates announced that he’s a grandfather (again) and then did the invocation. It won’t be long until we see him walking around town with two grand kids in tow! Joyce introduced Warren Wimer as our Introductions delegate and he announced visitors Aubrec LeBard from La Habra and Bill Gillespie of Fullerton South. Cameron McCune introduced guest Hilda Sugarman, and Diane Masseth-Jones introduced guest Nina Visconti. Drew Napolin’s sage advice on staying married for 23 years was, “Keep your mouth shut”. Pat McKinley, celebrating 17 years, was just as tight lipped and would only say “I don’t know”, when asked the same question. Les Christiansen, Frank Kawase and Bill Klinghoffer all received a reminder of their wives birthdays, while Jeff Hutchison was celebrating the triple crown of |
Finemaster/Recognitions (cont) recognitions: Birthday, wife birthday and anniversary! Jeff noted that “Give and take” is vital in a lasting marriage, but the details of this remark are for those who were present. Dean Heiser had a birthday and Ken Kaisch was proud to announce his one month anniversary, so we assume he’d credit the marital longevity to an extended honeymoon! RAFFLE Either due to tradition or lack of any better time to do it, Joyce decided to hold the raffle drawing, in which Scott Dowds won $10.00 from Wally Swatkowski for incorrectly guessing at which planet is the only one to spin counterclockwise.(Venus) PROGRAM We got a preview of the upcoming year when President-Elect Terri Grassi introduced her board of directors. Teri stressed how much more members of our club will be in the upcoming year, inviting Rotarians to speak up early for more choice as to where they’ll be helping. Good participation in many events will certainly enhance our standings in the District Awards Program! Joyce ended the program with the quote: "There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life -- happiness, freedom, and peace of mind -- are always attained by giving them to someone else." |
