Following lunch and a recital of Military songs from Don Ludwig

Lee Brockett began the meeting by leading the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Song leader Howard Wood provided the club with two verses of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and all voices responded with a rousing rendition of this song.

Leroy Fulton gave an invocation that asked that we remember the sacrifices that this nations veterans made for our country.

Bill Gorman introduced visiting Rotarians assistant Governor Greg Owen from Long Beach Rotary.  J Ritchey introduced his guest Dan Moran; Bob Hathaway (in absentia) hosted Patricia Frank, and Frank Kawase introduced his son who was visiting from Japan, John Kawase.

John Kawase was then presented a Paul Harris Fellowship from Walt Barnes that was a gift from his father Frank.

Announcements:

  Cathy Gach has Rotary-size Fullerton High School Indian Sweatshirts to sell (Proceeds to go to FHS Interact club.)

J Richey will chair a program committee meeting Thursday Nov. 17 at 7:30 AM at Carrows Restaurant.

Don Bankhead announced that American Legion Post 142 will parade down Harbor Blvd. At 10:00 AM on Friday and hold a commerative Veteran’s day service at the Hillcrest Park memorial at 11:00.  All veterans are invited to join the parade and everyone is invited to the commemoration.

Winston Creel has tickets to the Vicky Lawrence show in January.

Maryalyce Jeremiah thanked the club for its continuing generous support of Cal State Fullerton Women’s Basketball program.

Recognitions:

Randy McFarland was the guest Finemaster and recognized Tom Meyer, Bill Kincaid, Joyce Capelle, Dick Mathewson, and Leroy Fulton for Birthdays, Spousal Birthdays and Anniversaries.

This week’s recognizies had do help each other into various prosthetic devices provided by Randy.  Now we know why the fitting of these devises should be left up to a professional (according to Randy).

Lee Brockett won the opportunity drawing but did not know the age of the Veterans Administration  (75 years).  He won the $10 consolation price that was donated by Tom Meyer.

Veterans Day Program

David Schoen introduced three sixth graders from Eastside Christian School (Amy, Tina, and Josiah) who read short essays thanking veterans for their service.

Bob Savage explained the origins of Armistice Day which formally became Veterans day in 1954.

Ray Ashcroft (Korean War Veteran) told of meeting Television and Movie personality Gary Marshall during his service years.

Bob Savage (Viet Nam Veteran) described the history of the Viet Nam Conflict.

Bob then asked all veterans to stand and be recognized then asked the remaining members to stand while he played a recording of TAPs .

All attending thought it was a moving and outstanding program.
