Volume 64, Issue 27 Rota-Scribe: Leslie McCarthy

President Bob opened the meeting today and drafted Art Levine for the Pledge, Howard Wood, Jim Young and Don Ludwig welcomed us with America the Beautiful and Smile and Howard was introduced once again for the Thought for the Day. Howard noted that many members started their lives in a different era, aged through the Depression and matured in WWII and according to Tom Brokow, are “The Greatest Generation.”

Also, copies of the Rotogram will be available from President Bob if you do not have access to email. Pat McKinley would appreciate volunteers for the Thought for the Day. We received a thank you note from Mrs. Mlodzick on behalf of Don.

MEETING PLACE CHANGE
EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 2, 2005, THE MEETING PLACE FOR OUR CLUB WILL BE HOPE UNIVERSITY. DETAILS AND DIRECTIONS TO FOLLOW.

Dick Daybell – Finemaster:

Dick opened the recognition segment of our program with a fishing story involving Chris Meyer and his wife. Apparently they had a small run in with Fish and Game on their last trip to Montana. See Chris or Dick if you want further details. Members and spouses recognized this day were John Derry for Jane’s birthday on January 15th, Scott Dowds who hopefully was good to his wife on their anniversary January 8th, Frank Kawase for his birthday on the 19th, Keith Mills for both an anniversary and a birthday one day apart and finally Ron Soderquist was fined $50 for another combination of birthday and anniversary.

Thank you for the people who attended the Poker Party planned by Jim McKamy. It raised $640 for Polio Plus and allowed Finemaster Dick to levy a $30 fine for each member who did not attend. (With that fine, we raised enough money to send our Finemaster to Tibet to give the final inoculation!)

Trivia from President Bob:

Rick Crane had the ticket to total humiliation this week and won $10 from Daniel Kang for the privilege.

Program – The Sister City Tour to South Korea:

A wonderful slide show was provided by Mike Oates and Daniel Kang. It included some great pictures of Starbucks, erotic sculptures, Rotary meetings, Baptist Church services, camels and weddings revisited. Though the locale was supposed to be the Far East, it sounded like they never left home. All kidding aside, they were warmly welcomed and had a wonderful show for the club. A final fact though, “The average person swallows 8 spiders in their sleep a year.” To see a reprise of the slide show and find out how that fact tied into their trip, see Past-President Mike.

Next week, RYLA program
