As the busses arrived at the Elks Lodge, several Rotarians greeted our invited senior guests from Gordon Lane, Evergreen and Acacia Villa and assisted them to their seats. Bob Savage opened the meeting with Dean Hiser leading us in the Flag Salute. Leroy Fulton followed with the Thought for the Day emphasizing goodwill and friendship. President Bob then turned the meeting over to Christmas Event Chair, Mark McGee. Mark did a great job introducing our super program to the audience. We had the pleasure of being entertained by a
group of Korean singers and dancers. The group is from Dongseo University in Pusan, Korea and is the Sister School of Hope University. They sang and danced their way through many traditional American holiday and Christmas songs and even though most of the students did not speak English, they sang several songs In English. “Silent Night” and “O’ Come All Yee Faithful” were sung in their home language.
Santa Claus (Jim McKamy) entered and wished a hearty Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. Each senior guest had their picture taken with Santa.

Our next two performing groups were students from Parks Jr. High and they entertained us during our lunch. For the sixteenth year, Miss Carla Turner led her Jr. High Bell Choir in some non-traditional and traditional holiday songs.
On their last piece the Bell Choir was joined by a twelve member Advanced Girls Choir called the “Chanson” (French) led by Miss Melissa Luebke. The girls’ choir continued with many of our favorites.
At the end of the luncheon and as our Rotarians escorted our guests to their busses for their ride home, each was given their picture with Santa. And, due to the generosity of Kerry and John Phelps each senior guest received a Christmas gift. Thanks to Mark McGee for chairing a great program!
Those who bought raffle tickets were asked to hold on to their tickets as the drawing will be at our meeting next week. President Savage reports that our meetings from December 22 through January will be held at the Elks Club. Stay tuned! |
