Volume 63, Issue 44 Rota-Scribe: Jim Blackburn

And a child shall lead them

President Bill introduced Millie Farber, who led as in the Pledge of Allegiance. She would have done a good job of leading the singing, but some "stand ins" for Maestro Duncan and the Grifftones handled that role.

J Ritchey provided a fine thought for the day on the subject of Living Life on the Positive side. The analogies of the crayons and the retirement plan for those who work God were especially useful thoughts.

Lots of Guests

Randy McFarland introduced our visitors of which there were several, but your Rotagram scribe lost the slips that included the names. Please fine him substantially.

Introducing their guests were Bob Sattler, Tom Meyer (in absentia), Jim Blake, Frankie Berry and Kathy Allred Blake.

Announcements

Pat McKinley announced the upcoming demotions of Bill Mathy, which was warmly (even ecstatically received. June 30 at the Four Points Sheraton at the corner of Raymond and the 91 Fwy.

Bob Clark Jr. announced a fund raised for the FOX at the Springfield on Friday evening.

Top 100 another big success

Prez Bill recognized those who helped with the event and gave special recognitions and Rotary Clocks to Bill and Shirley Kincaid. Ed Little's skill at slicing tomatoes was greatly touted, and became the first of several dozen persons to receive on of the high sought after and incredibly rare Rotary Clocks.

Recognitions of Philanthrophy

We received a thank you note from the Needlework Guild of Fullerton, which apparently used our $700 donation to help eradicate temporary nudity in Fullerton.

Kathy Allred Blake introduced Chris Dearman of WTLC, and together they offered obviously sincere thanks for the $1000 provided to that splendid organization.

Several Rotary Clocks were presented at this point.

Dick Mathewson introduced Sue Faassen, principal of Beechwood School and noted that Millie Faber (a Beechwood student) had donated her birthday gifts ($340) to WTLC. A certificate and a Rotary Clock were presented to Millie in recognition of her acts of selflessness.

KK 'aces" the Raffle Quiz

Ken had the only red ticket and got to pick Nature as his category. Dr. Kaisch correctly identified Cicadas as the latest low card high protein snack food and won $50, which he will probably lose on a golf course.

GSE Program

Frank Kawase ( the only Rotarian to wear a coat and tie more after retirement than he did when he was still working) briefed us on the Rotary Group Study Exchange and introduced Denise Higuchi, who was our representative to the GSE with RID 1770 in Paris, France.

Ms Higuchi is a marketing manager with Goodwill Industries in Fullerton.

Her presentation included several interesting points.
* meals in France take a long time
* bread and jam are featured elements of French breakfasts
* a surprising amount of French electricity is generated by nuclear fission
* at least some French laboratory procedures are conducted without the alleged benefits of gloves or some other personal safety procedures
* given the lack of agreement between France and the US re Iraq, GSE participants were asked to avoid discussion of politics, religion or the current war
* no "uncomfortable" events occurred in France, but the same cannot be said about the French GSE team that came to OC

The agenda included le tour Eiffel and several places or business, but apparently no Musee de Pompidou or Le Louvre (quelle tragedie!)

Denise was thanked for her participation and presentation and received a Rotary Clock.

Next week's program will take place at the Elks Club and will feature Jay Bond, CSUF Associate VP for Facilities and Jim Blackburn, who is allegedly in charge of something at CSUF.
