Volume 63, Issue 39 | Rota-Scribe: Leslie McCarthy |
Welcome to all from President Bill. The Pledge was led by Janie Noppe and she was also the female soloist with Grif and the Chorale of 8 singing My Country Tis of Thee and Smile. (Mr. Oates, why all the goofy faces while performing in the Chorale?) Nate Kvetny gave us a reminder about the privilege we are blessed with in living in America and the invocation was a blessing for us all who live and work in the United States. Visitors introduced by Mark McGee: Rotarians visiting included Bill Gillespie and Dick Boyle from Fullerton South. We also were graced with a visit from Sam Barone, best friend of Dale Hardner, Melissa Wills who as administrative assistant to Rick Crane we have to thank for keeping him in line and Dr. Stepen Chou who was a guest of Franki Berry and adopted for the day by Tony Amato. Announcements – Announcements – Announcements * Bob Jahncke announced a very successful rummage sale thanks in part to Mr. and Mrs. John Phelps, Dan Kiernan and our membership. They raised $4,500 for the Boys & Girls Club in spite of the rain. * 4/28/04-Brunch at La Vie en Rose for the Boys & Girls Club * 5/25/04-Top 100 Banquet for Fullerton Union High School Students. * Please let Mike Oates or Randy McFarland have pictures and paperwork for the District awards. * Grif Duncan has two season Angels tickets he would like to share with someone. Great Seats! Call him if you are interested. * Ken Kaisch announced that we needed reparation from Mike Oates for his bad jokes which lead us right into Jim McKamy as finemaster assessing a minimal $25. We all felt it should be on the lines of $5.00 a word for each joke told. Just think, no more fundraisers!!! Mike could support us all.

Recognition and Fines (continued by Jim McKamy): Janie Noppe was fined $28 for her 38th birthday. We all agreed at our table that the fine was based on how good she looks and had nothing to do with her actual age. Happy Birthday Janie! Bob Jahncke as the “Tom Cruise” of Fullerton (based upon popularity if you all had any questions as to the analogy), was fined $380 a month for each month his picture hangs on the Starbuck’s wall as customer of the month. Raffle Wally Bartelt was able to give us a range as to the number of books in the Torah. We all proceeded to name them, but the question was raised, “Why are we naming the books of the Torah in Latin?” Nate, we need some help. Program Part two of the Senior Craft Talk was delivered by Keith Mills. Leroy introduced him with a question as to how he might be able to have his congregation invite him back for “Part Two” of his sermons given on Sundays. (I think he might be able to get away with it as long as it wasn’t football season.) Keith said he would be happy to give us the “Cliff Notes” version on the balance of his life, and we could all get back to the office early. As we did not allow him to do that, we got to find out he was a bit of a Bohemian in his college days (pre Beatnik and Hippie)! We also found out why he fits in with our group so well as he was a little distracted by drinking and girls and lost his scholarship in college, ended up in the Army Security Agency instead of getting a summer job and moved on from there. He has been a member and past President of our club since 1974 and was able to assist in directing our 75th Anniversary Community Service Project to build the Girl’s Club on Richman (which was funded by R.C. Baker Oil). He also wanted to have a joint meeting with Soroptomist International of Fullerton, establish a club Foundation and start a Sunrise Club during his tenure as President. The Foundation was started several years later, with the help of Dale Schumacher our club did sponsor Sunrise Rotary and if you still want a joint meeting with SIF, I would be happy to assist you Keith. The credits for his acting include appearances on West Wing, LA Law and he was the Man in the Moon on the It’s the Cheese commercials. |
