INSURANCE FRAUD IS RAMPANT IN CALIFORNIA!
State Farm Insurance, Co. Representative WILBUR SENTERFIL
gives us a sobering picture of the accident, arson, injury claims
in the United States and California (the Insurance Fraud Capitol of the country.)

If you added up your costs of all types of your insurance coverage, you will find that fraud alone costs you about $400 annually. The public is becoming more tolerant of insurance fraud which is about 25% of the total spent in the United States. You don't see it in your grocery bill, but it is an added cost of doing business that you pay in the price of goods and services. Oddly enough, juries are more sympathetic to claimants because of a bias against insurance companies.

ARSON is the leading cause of damage insurance claims, as in-in-four fire claims are the result of arson. Its effects are felt in loss of employment, sales revenue, and shopping traffic in the contiguous neighborhood.

HOW TO TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT YOURSELF ! One of the common automobile scams is the "rear ender" set up where a car load of indigents initiates an accident by slamming on the brakes to cause a collision by the following car. This trip is aimed at older (usually women) drivers who unsuspectedly become liable for damage and injury to the car ahead and its passengers. Be alert for a beat-up car with a load of suspicious passengers. Carry a disposable point and shoot camera to record the condition of passengers as you stop to inspect damage. Don't hesitate to take names of all involved and witnesses.

Our speaker gave BZs to the Fullerton Police Department Traffic Department for its support of the local insurance agencies in identifying fraud. Los Angeles has instituted a program against such recognized fraud. The downside of this is crooks are moving to Orange and Riverside Counties to "beat the heat". So be alert when you are on the road and encounter erratic driving drivers.

THE FORMALITIES PRECEDED THIS EXCELLENT PROGRAM

Lonnie Black led off with the pledge followed by the Indefatigable SEXTET of Ray Ashcroft, Grif Duncan, Howard Wood, Bill Peloquin, Jim Blackburn and Leroy Fulton.

Winston Creel's "Thought for the Day" was derived from Ralph Waldo Emerson and it sounded something like "A friend is a person with whom I may be sincere. Before him, I may think aloud", or thoughts to that effect. Winston related this to his friends in Rotary.
