BP Rotary Merges with Fullerton!!!
Prez Bill called us to some state of order, and John Phelps (late of the USMC) led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. A considerable aggregation of singers led those present in "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" and "My Country T'is of Thee". One of these was better than the other. Our guest pianist was Past Prez Mike Oates, who later favored us with some Irish tunes. Music being one of the great Irish traditions the other being poetry, fighting and drinking. Speaking of the Irish- Dan Kiernan provided the thought for the day, and it was good and largely comprehensible to folks who do not hail from NYC. Visitors and Guests Introduced by part time retired wahine Chris Fraschetti (recently returned from Maui) introduced an entire company of Visiting Rotarians and Guests: Frank Stroobant- Big Bear Placentia Buena Park Guests Eileen Nakagawa, Danielle Kenfield, Dick Daybell, & Cindy Osborn. Area Speech Contest ADG Wally Bartelt presided over the RID 5320 Area Speech Contest. This is in preparation for there District Contest at the Bowers Museum on 5/1. The contestants were: Elizabeth Vu (Placentia), Jena Kim (Fullerton South) and Silvica Rosca (Buena Park). Each of these young women spoke on the topic "Lend a Hand", the RI theme for this year. They performed well under the watchful eye and ear of Warren Wimer, Esq., The Rev Dr. Leroy Fulton and PDG/Prof. Jim Young.
Jena Kim (despite her having been introduced by Dick Boyle) was the winner in a close match.
