Volume 61, Issue 16
Written and reported by Bill Schenk

Prez Dr. Bill asked Dr. Les Christensen to lead the club in the pledge, which was followed, as usual, by the Fullerton Rotary Boy Band DYS & JB (Duncan, Young, Savage, & Jim Blackburn). Ever popular, God Bless America and Smile was warbled loudly and with spirit by the assembled club. A good way to judge the spirit of the Fullerton Rotary chorus effort is to measure the height of Bob Savage's heel clicking jump as he returns from the choir stand!

Dr. Leroy Fulton gave a Rotary inspired Thought for the Day, which dealt with Service above Self and learning and leadership.

Mike Oates performed a special concert of Halloween spooky music (sans candelabra).  Among Mike's selections was the UCLA fight song played in the tempo of a durge.

Frank Kawase introduced visiting Rotarians Louis Koff and Bernie Dunlap, both from the Fullerton Sunrise and Brea clubs, respectively, and Speaker/Guest Jim Hogg from the Edina, Minnesota Rotary Club. Guests and hosts for the day included: Jim Hogg (visiting dean of Western Law) brought Law faculty Tim Mallory, and June Flain; Charlotte Dufresne-Dyess hosted Mike Lewis (Mgr. of Union Bank); Amy Kluth introduced Carol Ebbinghouse; Buck Catlin was the designate host of Interim City Manager, Chris Meyer; and Greg Franklin sent a note from the principal's office to introduce fellow principal, Damon Dragos of Sunny Hills High, Julie Kemp introduced her law clerk, John, and Debbie Koff morphed into Minnie Mouse, but I don't think she paid for the extra lunch.

Prez Peloquin awarded belated Rotarian of the Week honors to Griff Duncan for continued service to Fullerton Rotary. Prez honored Club treasurer Bill Kincaid with this week's award.

Tom Meyer had the winning opportunity ticket this week. He amazed the club at correctly answering five parts of one of Prez Bill's infamous multi-part questions.  Tom's knowledge of oceanography won him $50.  Not bad for a Midwesterner.

Announcements:
Winston Creel will stand in for absent President Bill Peloquin on November 14 (Gee, it will be nice to see Winston again, won't it?)

November 7 the District Governor will be visiting and we should all shine our shoes and wear our Rotary pins (our RI President "Mankind is our Business" pins, too!)

Due to President Bill's planned absence, the monthly Board meeting will be the first Tuesday of the month rather than the second Tuesday (Usual place 7:30 Hope International conference room).

Finemaster Blackburn recognized Rick Crane on his 43rd BD and Bob Clark Jr. for his mother Marilyn's birthday. Robert Jahncke was fined for half of his 63 years; Bill and Shirley Kincaid were recognized for 51 years of marriage. Bill McGarvey was fined in absentsia for the occasion of his upcoming birthday.

Dick Mathewson was recognized for the astounding football victory of Cornell over Princeton this past week. Cornell has now broken into the Fullerton Rotary top 100 ranks in this week's poll.

Finally, Dr. Blackburn endeared himself, once again, to the law enforcement establishment by telling a few "back home" stories about the FBI and Police.

Terri Grassi introduced new member John Kunau who was inducted into FullertonDr James Hogg,
Western State University of Law Rotary today. Be sure to introduce yourself to John next week and welcome him to the club (and your committee!!).

Amy Kluth introduced our speaker, Dr. James Hogg.  Jim is Dean of Western State University of Law and will be visiting our club for the next three years. Jim presented a lecture on Terrorism, its legal definition, origins, purpose, and goals.  His presentation was timely, knowledgeable and thought provoking.

Upcoming Programs:
11/7 District Governor's Visit
11/14 Congressman Ed Royce
