Opening with a Stand in:
Dr.Greg Franklin was "standing" in for Prez Bill
as the latter had returned to PA for his high school reunion. This star-
studded event did not take place in one of Carl
Wilkins' company's nursing homes. After Jim Lapak led the
Pledge of Allegiance, the usual quartet minus the missing Griff Duncan led those assembled in God Bless America and Smile.. Accompanied by Mike Oates and with Leroy Fulton in real shoes.
Jim Blake provided a thought for the day on the topic: Why are we here? He had a fine answer, and we were off to the pasta.
Visitors and Guests:
Dan Fisk introduced visiting Rotarians and guests. Among whom were included: Jim Hogg from Edina, MN (Senior Active) from Western State College of Law. Our guests were: Dick Hopping of SCCO, Damon Drago for SHHS, John Kanou, Mike Nomura and Lisa Gallaway from CSUF.
Announcements :
Phil Strauss is Rotarian of the Week from two weeks ago for his outstanding program contributions.
Ken Kaisch had the winning ticket in the Opportunity Drawing and correctly indicated that the Nile River was longer then the Santa Ana River and that the former is located in Africa.
Dave Schoen announced Eastside Christian Schools Recognition of Veterans scheduled for November 12 at 2 p.m. If you are a veteran or think you were, show up and be recognized.
Mike Oates announced with obvious and well deserved pride that last Saturday's Boys and Girls Club auction raised over $140,000. Mike thanked the Rotary for its individual and group support .
Special Fundraising Project for OC's largest institution of higher education:
PDG Jim Young aided by Past President Warren Wimer announced an extraordinary special project whereby a
prominent room in the Cal State Fullerton Pollack Library will be named for the
Club. RI President Rick King is willing to be present for the dedication of
this effort which will benefit the university and contribute to the positive
public exposure of Rotary. First we
have to raise $25K and not dilute or detract from our other fund-raising and
support activities. Warren indicated that a lovely evening
featuring a cruise on Claude Jones' boat and dinner at one of the lovely yacht clubs in
the Newport harbor will initiate our efforts. That event is scheduled for
11/11. Call Warren!!!!!!!!!
Recognitions:
Recognized for spousal birthdays and anniversaries were Don Ludwig, Carl Wilkins,
Walt Zeigler, Vern Andrews and Dean Heiser.
Both the UCLA and USC alums failed to note the playing of their fight songs by
Maestro Oates. This was costly and may result in increased sales at Bill
Schenk's place of business, where auditory enhancements are available.
Bill McGarvey's participation in extreme good fortune in Laughlin was recognized for $14.94.
Jim Blake and in absentia Kathy Allred-Blake were recognized for their first anniversary, which they will as of 10/27 forever share with Chris Lowe.
The best thing about Pete's presentation is that even a defrocked history teacher could understand almost all of it. What is a Gimbel anyway? I thought it was a store in NYC.
