Board of Directors Meeting

Minutes for Meeting of October 7, 2003

Present: Mathy, Bartelt, Dowds, Duncan, Franklin, Haynes, Kawase, Jahncke, Matthewson, and Myhre.

Absent: Capelle, Jones, and Schoen.

Secretary Jahncke: September Minutes approved.

Kawase: Treasurer - Budget approved. Bob Barry, the bookkeeper, has turned over the billing job to his daughter. Budget approved..

Matthewson: reading by nine. Foundation did not want to be expected to cover the $1000 because this has become an annual expectation.

Last year the books arrived late. Many books went directly into the library. The Roselva Sattler Memorial stickers were very obvious in the books. A terrific discount allowed many books to be donated for our money. This program has a terrific book list; the LA Times. Dick has been able to push the district to move the delivery of books to a month earlier.

Moved and 2nded to approve $1,000, to have Dick Matthewson allocate & deliver the books to the schools. Pictures to be sent to Ray Ashcroft. Motion approved. Taxes & shipping costs may bring the to approx $1,100.

Membership: J. Richey has compiled the attendance list for the meeting.

2 New members: David Silverman, works for Leslie McCarthy, sells insurance. William Baugh, dermatologist, proposed by Franki Berry. David Bosari, atty brought up as another potential member.

New District Policy: Clubs should remove deadwood; looking for good viable members. Need to have attendance.

Our club needs to find some more new members. Membership meeting 1 week from today (Tues Oct 14)

Cliff Nelson (District) has requested $2-$3 per member to support the Rotary Rose Parade float.

Winston Creel has requested $250 support for the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast. President Mathy authorized payment after consultation with Leroy Fulton.

Jack Hayes has put together a bookmark for the Library. How may libraries to work with? Have Jack work with new nine to connect with newer members.

Julianne Haynes: Working with Alan Atwell for the Senior party; Would like to re-arrange seating; possibly change the meal. John Phelps made up gifts - he needs help this year. Senior party is 10th. Elections on the 3rd.

Scott Dowds: RYLA is now $300 per person - in April.

Jones: International - Mexico Project: Electrical work has reduced bill by 50%; service is more reliable and stable. Looking to visit on November 6.

Joyce Capelle: District looking for input for Rotarian of the Year from the 3 clubs. We will pass. Fellowship lunches underway.

Wally Bartelt: Wally presented the new Club Banner for approval. Board Approved.

Duncan: Rich Little to perform 90-100 minutes; we would our announcements up front; Have a 20 minute performance from the High School, followed by the Rich Little performance.
