Volume 68, Issue 42 Rota-Scribe: Leslie McCarthy

Deacon Jay Milam.is obviously miscast as a cleric for our Police Department.  He would be better situated as Grif Duncan’s new pianist for Fullerton Civic Light Opera!  Great job Deacon Jay.  President Pat asked us to congratulate the matchless Concert Committee, including Jim Williams, Rick Price, Tom Meyer, Joyce Capelle, Grif Duncan, Jeff Hutchison, Fred Johnson, Dan Ouweleen, Vimal Seth, Theresa Harvey, Zoot Velasco, Kim Nguyen, Winston Creel, Deborah Sanchez and Blake Smith.  They were presented with the coveted Fullerton Police patch suitable for leaving prominently on your dash board and a Fullerton Police coffee mug for the same because of their wonderful work bringing us such great food and entertainment!  Winston Creel (who was not fined for whining) received special recognition and was removed from the room by North Orange County’s Swat Team.  (The coffee stain rumor has continued to proliferate.)

Roger McGonegal, District Governor presented our own Bob Hathaway with an award for being the man behind our Ambassador’s Program.  Bob received the Rotary Foundation’s District Service Award.  Thank you Bob for all your hard work.

Leading us in the pledge was John Phelps and Mark McGee lead us in a prayer, thanking God for Rotary and Friends!  Leroy Fulton was part of a prayer group for Obama’s 1st 100 Days in Office and ended his commitment by having us all join in with God Bless America, and then, of course led us all in…Smile

Visitors:

Bill Hite was on hand to introduce us to Gizi Clemmer from Fullerton Sunrise.  Travis Norton and Lane Calvert were also with us from Boy Scouts of America.  Welcome all!

Finemaster:

Jimmy Williams announced our own Jackie Gleason wanna be, Scott Dowds.  Scott made his acting debut today as Sheriff Bertram T. Justice and promptly cited all members who had stock ownership in the company that manufactured the Pontiac Trans Am.  As no one would confess to their woes, no fines were collected for this infraction.  However, he went on to fine the heck out of Chief Pat.  Rotarians were asked to answer questions pertaining to Chief Pat’s life.  For each correct answer, the members were violation free.  For each incorrect answer, Chief Pat was fined a buck.  We found out some wonderful background information on Chief Pat, including the facts that he was raised by Freedom Fighters in the Shenandoah Valley, currently owns a boat by the name of “Stakeout”, was a bag boy for the Mob in his first job and then served time doing community service for the Coast Guard.  And, his most famous quote…”It’s not my job!”  Jim Blake, Joe Lins and Bill Goetsch were guilty of being great St. Jude benefactors, Bob Sattler was named Top Salesman with his firm in Orange County, Chet Schultz’ wife is celebrating their anniversary, Nate Kvetney, John Phelps and J. Richey all are celebrating a shared birthday.  Thank you all for your erroneous answers.  Chief Pat, thank you for the mini-fundraiser!

Raffle:

No money was won by Larry Bennet as he and Kathy Allred could not identify the band that performed the song, “Elvira” (for those curious it was the Oakridge Boys).

Program:

We had a small history lesson with the involvement of Rotary in the Scouting Program dating back over 100 years.  Now, there is an opportunity to help support a novel new park and outdoor education center founded in>Irvine. This is a $33 million endeavor to build a wonderful center to be used by Orange County schools, youth groups and organizations and of course, the Scouts.  If you are interested in donating, arrange a tour with Skip Seagraves at (714) 546-4990, ext. 142.  He would be happy to show you around and discuss opportunities for your participation.  The facility includes 3 Themed Camps as referenced in announcements, 2 Pools, a Nature Center, a Training Center, Hiking Paths, and BB Gun and Archery Ranges.  Check it out on the 30th of May!
