Vern Andrews led the pledge of allegiance just before Howard Wood led the Fullerton Rotary Alphalfa choir in a high keyed rendition of “Hail to the Chief”.   (Chief’s Kanabe, McKinley, and Meyer dutifully stood up and waived to the minions)

Jim Williams gave a solemn Thought for the Day as he remembered a recently departed friend and employee and spoke about God’s gift of life.

Bill Schenk introduced guests that included Deborah Sanchez (Cappelle), and Wendy- Terrado-Florian (Napolin).

Prez Tom renounced several of his college and high school sports teams in favor of the only winner in the bunch: Vanderbilt!  and donned his Commodore cap for the rest of the meeting.

Commodore Tom then announced that there will be an joint Fullerton Rotary meeting on Wednesday April 2 at the new Elks Lodge (which is due to become our new meeting place as of then).

Jim McKamy announced a Texas Hold’em tournament to be held on Thursday March 20th at Danny K’s Billiards and Sports Bar at 6:00 pm.  Proceeds to go to Rotary’s preventable Blindness Campaign.

Leslie McCarthy announced that volunteers are needed for the May 22 and May 28th Top 100 banquets.

Bob Radde announced the All City Track Meet is in need of volunteers and T-shirt sponsors for March 29th

Allyn Lean asks the we all remember to donate to the Rotary Foundation.

Randy McFarland is asking anyone with photos of Rotary event of the past year to e-mail them to him for use in the district award booklets.

 Jon West wished to remind the club of the stellar beginning Cal State Fullerton Titans baseball is enjoying.

3/12 Osher Lifelong Learning Inst. The OLLI program for continuing education for seniors at Cal-State Fullerton will be described by Martin Hebeling

Dick Daybell played recognition master this week and recognized:

Wolf Knabe for his wife Heather’s Birthday
Jon West for wife Marcia’s Birthday
Jim Young for wife Dottie’s Birthday
Bob Radde for wife Gloria’s Birthday
And Keith Mills for his 72nd Birthday
Dick Daybell also recognized past Presidents Savage, Cappelle, and Grassi for their Cal State Fullerton Women’s Basketball victories.  And then read a resolution banning Prez Tom from Coaching Women’s Basketball ever again.  (Unless Tom should be re-elected)

Pat McKinley could not draw the joker this week but settled for a $10 consolation prize.

Program:

Craig Walker introduced Executive Director Zoot Velasco from the Muckenthaler Cultural Center.   Zoot gave an enthusiastic rundown of what is on the schedule for the coming year at the Muck.  Zoot also gave a short but entertaining “Craft Talk” on his background in dance and theater and how he became known as “Zoot”
