Meeting was called to order by President Tom at 12:35pm

President Tom introduced Kim Nguyen to lead us in the pledge of allegiance.

Wait; there is a sound in the background.  What is it?  It sounds like “Beat Army.”  I wonder where it came from!

Griff Duncan pinched hit for Howard Wood and led us in “My Country Tis of Thee” and “Smile”.  It actually sounded great.

The thought of the day was handled by Dick Daybell.

Announcement:

  • President Tom announced we received thank yous from George Giokaris and Hoopsters for the donation from the Rotary Foundation.
  • Randy McFarland: Keep working on getting information for District Awards.
  • Jay Kremer: Correction Zoot Velasco will speak at Muckenthaler next week.  Program committee meets on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Carrows.
  • Jeff Hutchison: Reading Across March 3rd from 9am to 3pm at the Orangethorpe School.
  • Concert ticket sales are going fine.  Keep pushing.
  • Fred Johnson: the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fullerton 15th Annual Hoby Brenner Golf Tournament is on Monday, April 7th at Hacienda Golf Club.
  • Concert Awards this year go to:
    • YMCA
    • YWCA
    • Assistance League
    • Child Guidance Center

Congratulations to all the winners.

Fullerton all city track meet is March 29th at Troy High School.  They need volunteers. See Rick Crane.

President Tom introduced Fine Master, past President, Joyce Capelle.

  • Joyce started off by fining Dan Kiernan for being Dan.
  • Joe Lins got hit recruiting for his business.
  • Wolf Knabe- spousal birthday
  • Blake Smith- spousal birthday
  • Bernie Dunlap’s anniversary- 5 years a Rotarian.
  • Terri Grassi’s anniversary- 13 years a Rotarian.
  • President Tom Meyer gets fined for his coaching talents.  I told Tom use the “stall.”  Also, Tom got fined for Fullerton Community Bank getting Chamber of Commerce Large Business of the Year Award. 
  • Mike Oates Senior’s son Mike Jr. received Medium Business of the Year for Hidalgo Restaurant.

Raffle: Dan Fisk- once again, it was the wrong card.  Consolation prize goes to Jeff Hutchison.

Program:

  • Superintendent, George Giokaris, introduced the program for today, The High School Vocal Contest.  Sunny Hills and Fullerton High featured vocalists in 4 categories: Classical Male, Classical Female, Musical Theatre Male, and Musical Theatre Female. 
  • Just a note of interest, Jeff Hutchison’s guest, his daughter Jamie, performed as a vocalist in 2001 and won third in the District Competition.  It’s great to have Jamie visit. 
  • Teachers, Scott Hitchock from Fullerton High School and Rod Penny from Sunny Hills, accompanied the vocalists.
  • Performers were terrific.  Good luck in the Rotary Competition.  The past few years, the representatives have won or placed in the Rotary Districts Competition.
  • Don’t forget the Rotary District Conference on Friday, February 22, 2008.
