Volume 67, Issue 23 Rota-Scribe: Warren Wimer

Important!!! No meeting next week - December 26th we are dark – see you next year - January 2, 2008.

Opening the Meeting. Gaveled to order right on time by Prez Tom, the pledge was led by Bob Radde, followed by a traditional SMILE orchestrated by Howard Wood.  Drew Napolin, in his first shot at the Thought for the Day invoked the “Morning Affirmation” originally penned by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale.  The biggest job of the day went to Joe Lins, sans bow tie, who introduced The Fullerton Rotarians that honored us with their family guests:  Carl Camp family, Beth, Matthew, Zachary, Deborah and Judy; Terri Grassi and daughters Andrea and Laura; Bill Mathy and Robyn; Jim Young and Dottie; Jim Williams, Sally and mom Betty Andrews and son Michael (sporting a Fullerton Community Bank name badge); Mike Oates with conducting support from grandson Riley Michael; Dean Stockwell and Jeanie, Dan Ouweleen and daughter Christie and our singing gospel family, Greg Hickman, wife Roxanne, daughter Tiffany and son in law Lonnie James Chapin.

Rotary Announcements.  Bob Jahncke – Club pictures available at nominal charge, party pics are free; Jay Kremer – No December Program Committee meeting; Bernie Dunlap reported that Jim Blake is on his way home as he spoke, good news.  Two committee chairpersons, Mark McGee and Dick Daybell were thanked by Prez Tom for jobs well done on the Seniors Party meeting and the Huntington Harbor Cruise of Lights.

Recognitions.  Roving impresario Jim Williams, using the SIA [“Santa Intelligence Agency’] kept trying to unearth the “naughty” but found only “nice” as he maneuvered through the tables interviewing the offspring attending the meeting about what is naughty or nice about their member parent.  The kids all seemed to know the big day was coming and had few “naughties”, but lots of “nices” to relate.  Then Jim noted an Elmer’s Place adornment on Jo Brannock, which warranted a fine for some unclear reason, and led to romantic revelations by Theresa Harvey (met hubby Bill there while waiting tables) and Leslie McCarthy (Kevin proposed), both of whom were duly recognized by JimCarl Camp agreed to a $40 advertising assessment in recognition of his being selected by the Los Angeles Times as one of their “Money Make Over” advisors, and Minard Duncan was recognized $1/year for his two score and ten years as a Fullerton educator.

Entertainment.  A proud “Pops” Hickman introduced son in law Lonnie James Chapin and daughter Tiffany Chapin.  Lonnie James has quite a resume as an internationally renowned gospel performer.  His credits include nine world tours through twenty three countries, Grammy and Dove awards and membership in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.  Lonnie James and Tiffany provided our Club with a variety of renditions, stylized to traditional, of Christmas standards including White Christmas, Rocking Around the Christmas Tree and Wishing You a Merry Little Christmas.  We were fortunate to be entertained by true professionals who can be further seen, heard and appreciated at the Christian Life Center.
