Terri Grassi rung the bell to commence her final meeting as President, amid great acclamation and a teasing shout of “G-d almighty, we’re free at last.” Jim McKamy led us in the pledge. Maryalyce Jeremiah subbed in for absent Howard Wood to lead us in “Let me call you sweetheart,” sung in honor of Buck Catlin’s 60th wedding anniversary. (A certain Texan who will not be named was heard to say that his own marriage seemed that long to him). Without Howard’s usual cheat-sheet, many were hard pressed to recall the words after the first line. Order was restored with “Smile.” Bernie Dunlap delivered an inspirational invocation, reminding us that how we treat others is primarily a matter between us and G-d; therefore, we should treat others well regardless of whether they “deserve it.” The following members brought guests: By unanimous vote of all present, the club adopted the new by-laws drafted by the by-laws committee: Terri Grass, Joyce Capelle, Phil Silverman, President Terri recognized the members of the junior high school recognition committee, Theresa Harvey for her work on publicity, and Geoff Spalding for his work on our meeting attendance reports. Announcements: Our club received “thank you” letters for our donations to the Assistance League of Fullerton, the Boy Scouts of American, and the Meals on Wheels program. Greg Hickman: “Freedom Sunday” July 1, Greg Hickman: July 13th: Friday night at the movies “Charlotte Web” (new version) Rick Price: August 10 Rotary Flyers baseball. Don Ludwig: Reminded members to bring payments up to date Joyce Capelle – Register ASAP for Terri Grassi’s demotion night. Give testament to the stellar year that Terri has had. (Gracious as always, Terri then acknowledged the club). Dick Glaus’ ticket was selected for the “opportunity drawing,” but Dick pulled the three of hearts instead of an ace, leaving $90 in the kitty. Scott Dowds provided a $10 consolation price. |

Bidding started at $.50 but quickly reached a frenzy, with Minard Duncan winning out at $110!!!! Congratulations Minard, and congratulations to the Rotary foundation. Over $23,000 has been donated this year! Thank you for all of your efforts, Walt! Walt also announced that every member who has not donated to the Foundation is assessed $10. Our club has qualified for the “every Rotarian, every year” award. Program: Former Los Angeles Dodger Jimmy Campanis was our speaker. Son of former General Manager Al Campanis, Jimmy played in the majors from 1966-1972, including catching such Hall of Famers as Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. He and his children attended Terri’s poignant closing thought: “You can only grow by coming to the end of something and starting something else.” Congratulations and thank you, Terri!
