Volume 64, Issue 13 Rota-Scribe: Jim Blackburn

Prez Bob called us to order pretty much on time, and Bob Clark Jr. (with a bad wheel) led us the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Grifftones with Don Ludwig at the keyboard led those present in "God Blass America" and "Smile".

Local bank president Tom Meyer provided a current and topical "Thought for the Day" concerning recent personnel decisions made by the Anaheim Angels. A straw poll of those present indicated that Mike Scioscia has done the right thing. Decisions have consequences!!!

Belated Birthday Boy, Chris Meyer introduced visitors and guests in cluded among whom were Bill Gillespie from the local "Y" chromosome Rotary and Jackie Pearce, Principal of Fisler School and descendant of the founder of Grinnell, Iowa. Ms Pearce was the guest of Cameron McCune.

Bob Jahncke announced the upcoming Auction for Boys and Girls Club. Get your tickets from Dan Kiernan or Bob.

President Bob announced to deafening applause that Joyce Capelle had been selected as our President -elect. She hugged Bob and Dr. Levine, who made a remark about our possible violation of the child labor laws.

New Member Bill Klinghoffer brought us a club Flag from a Rotary club in Myrtle Beach SC.

Instant Program

President Bob Savage said the planned program was a non -starter. So, Several former Presidents would provide comments about their tenure as our "fearless leaders".

Bob Sattler included remembrances about taking his family to Banff and Calgary for RI, our sponsorship of Fullerton's Fourth of July festivities and the resulting glut of commemorative T-shirts (now collectors items on EBay.) Bob also noted that our concert that year featured the now late Steve Allen and the huge loss to the club that year of our long term and indispensable treasurer, the late and wonderful Jeb Moll.

Bob Jahncke was president in 92-93, which was a bad year for OC, but we won the membership award even though we only grew by only one net member. (We already a gross member.) Bob also spoke fondly of the RI meeting in Melbourne and the silence of the phones after his term ended. Past President Bob aptly noted his subsequent and wonderful contributions, e.g. our roster w/ photos and our awarding winning website.

Warren Wimer was our leader during 94-95, but has been a member since the early 1974. Prez WW reminded us of some of a traditions of yore, e.g. the golf, poker, etc. Retreat to the BSA camp in Warner Hot Springs, the wine tasting at Bill Jolly's furniture store and the almost world famous Fullerton Rotary Ski team. Warren also took time to remember the late Barney Riorden and the still with us but in Nashville Pete Leggett. Wimer also encouraged the renaissance of he softball that was last victorious during his tenure and with his pitching (as I recall).

Bill Kincaid led us to at least four RID 532 ( that was before we got an "0") in 89-90. Bill and Shirley got to witness history after the RI meeting in Korea. They journeyed on to China in time for the uprising that resulted in the Tiananmen Square Massacre. They left the day before that happened. IT was Bill's lot to preside over two "firsts".

The Annual Concerts began with John Raitt ( FUHS alumnus) and about 8000 dollars. Since that time, over one quarter of a million dollars has been raised and distributed in Fullerton via these concerts. The other first was the inclusion of women among our membership. Dr. Sharon Kawai joined us, and the club has not been the same since.

What a wonderful "instant program" and fitting tribute to these men and their fellow past presidents. We have been fortunate beyond our humble deserving.
