Volume 64, Issue 9 Rota-Scribe: Leslie McCarthy

We were welcomed to Rotary today by our own President Greg. In spite of having to help make 16,000 customers happy tomorrow, he was able to open with the thought that you should always “autograph your work with excellence.” A sample of that was heard in our meeting place when the Peloquin Players lead us in our weekly chorale practice.

Visitors acknowledged by Mr. Ray Hansen

Ray Hansen welcomed Roger Young, a Rotarian from Yorba Linda, Sunrise Club. Brian Choi and Young Lee were welcome guests of Chung Lee. Paul Dudley introduced us to the new Executive Director for Fullerton Redevelopment and Leroy Fulton baptized Gary Martin with fire by bringing him to our group as a guest on his first day at Hope University.

Announcements

• Leading off the announcements was President Greg who thanked Ray Hansen, Dale Schumacher and Bob Jahncke for doing a great job with membership. They are our Rotarians of the Month for July, August and September.

• 9-22 and 9-23: The Chamber will have a great workshop on people and how they present themselves. Per Randy McFarland, the cost is a low $100 for the workshop and it will go from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm both days.

• 9-9: The League of Women Voters will have a public forum on “Accountability or School Choice” featuring our own Bernie Dunlap and many other panelists, see Minard Duncan for further details. He also left us a great flier on “Choosing a City Council Member” from the League.

• 9-20: Crittenton’s Annual Golf Tournament will be played. It includes lunch and dinner and should be great fun and you get to support a worthy organization. See Joe Lins if you are interested.

Tom Meyer has the applications for grant money from the Concert in January. He needs them back by 10/1/04 if you have an interested organization.

• 9-2: Al Tetrault is having a program meeting at Carrows. Call him or bring your ideas at 7:30 am.

• President Greg pointed out the wonderful picture of Past-President Bill on page A-91 of the District Directory. The trivia question next week will be, “Who was in the picture with him and why were they in the new District Directory?”

• 9-18: Though Jim Lapak was too shy to come before our membership, his Great Crab Feast and Auction Under the Stars is coming up shortly. For those not quite as fitness conscious as our guest speakers, it is ALL YOU CAN EAT crab, shrimp, chicken, salad and dessert!

• El Susal (Boy did that get spelled incorrectly) Orphanage report to come next week.

Buena Park Rotary is changing their meeting to Wednesdays at 12 noon at Amada Club.

Yorba Linda Rotary Club is changing their meeting Wednesdays at 12 :15 p.m. at the Yorba Linda County Club.

Next Week – Lynn Daucher
INDUCTION, INDUCTION, INDUCTION!
Our Newest Member - Bob Foust

Please welcome our newest member, Bob Foust. He is proudly sponsored by Tom Meyer. Bob is a 34 year citizen of Fullerton and after retiring as an engineer has started his second career with Century 21. For those of you looking for volunteers, he loves working with young people and is a great basketball fan, but you cannot make him do a secret handshake or wear antlers. Welcome to this Indiana Boy!

Recognition and Fines by Dr. Jim Blackburn

Winston Creel fell victim to Dr. Jim for having his picture in the communist rag LA Times. Because the article revolved around our local schools, Jim donated $25 and fined Cameron $25 as well. $50 was levied against George who was missing in action today. Tom Meyer paid ½ of 1% of his bank’s assets for his promotion to President of Fullerton Community Bank. Somehow that worked out to $50, but this new math just didn’t quite add up. President Greg has been sent back to school. The institution he flunked out of…The Mike Oates Institute of Jokes. Anniversaries included this week were for Art & Barbara Levine on 9/1/04 for 30 years, Jon & Marcia West on 9/5/04 for 40 years, Bill & Wilma Peloquin on 9/6/04 for 7 years. Birthdays included Mary Jane (Jim’s better half) Thompson whose age shall remain unstated, and how did I get that fine again?, and a correction for Ken Kaisch who is not 57 years old and going through a mid life crisis, but in fact a well preserved 80 and still not out of that crisis! Bill Schenk had to pay the fine because of lack of editorial control on Buck Catlin last week and our own Jana Bogart was fined for failing the 4 way test by disavowing her friendship with Julianna Haynes to avoid being fined. Oh, and all Purdue attendees were fined $10, but I sure can’t remember why.

Trivia

Well, Bob Sattler was absolutely correct in his answer for the best selling book in the world. It has sold 6,000,000,000 copies internationally. What is it? Ask Bob next week.

Program

Extreme Fitness General Manager Sherman and his Assistant Manager Sean provided us with timely information about resistant exercise, aerobic exercise and dietary habits. It was timely because they just closed the La Habra Tennis Center and half our membership needs a new place to train. Good luck to all who take them up on their free week trial as they look like they are capable of running you ragged! By the way, thank you Mike Oates for your demonstration on weight training. The only thing missing was your leotard and we will look forward to seeing you with weights and in that leotard next week!
