Volume 63, Issue 11
Rota-Scribe: Minard Duncan

After President Bill Mathy opened themeeting, Howard Wood led us in the Flag Salute. Our songsters Jim Blackburn, Leroy Fulton, Janie Noppe, Howard Wood, Jim Young and the rest of us were enthusiastically led by Griff Duncan in singing "God Bless America" and "Smile." John Kunau recited a touching poem and led us in prayer. Guests/Hosts and Visiting Rotarians were introduced by Janie Noppe: Shelly Gesell / Carl Wilkins, Kevin Mathy/Bill Mathy, Collette Hoffman / Pat House, Jennifer De Leon, and Rob Jahncke / Bob Jahncke.

Visiting Rotarians: were Al Burks / Fullerton Sunrise, Victoria Heidelman / Brea and Frank Stroobant / Big Bear. Unfortunately, at this time, Prez Bill made a feeble attempt to tell a couple of jokes. Wow! (Actually, there were comments of a recall - and for Oates to come back???)

Sad News: Dennis Ullrich's mother passed away. Viewing was at McAulay and Wallace Mortuary. Service was at St. Juliana Church. Our heartfelt condolences are extended.

Question of the Week: There was confusion on the questions. Mike Nomura had a question on who was the Golden Boy of the Green Bay Packers?Ans: Paul Hornung. Howard Wood had the $60 raffle question on what four letter sport starts with a "t"? Ans: golf. It starts with a tee. Howard got $10. Finemaster Fred Johnson nailed Jim Blake, Griff Duncan and Jim Lapak with spousal birthday fines. Tony Amato was fined for celebrating his anniversary with wife Vivian.

Program: We had a great program presented by Ken Kaisch, Ph.D. on the Psychology of Golf. Ken asserts that the basic elements that bring success in golf will bring success in other parts of one's life. There is a mental game and a physical game.. Professional golfers say, 20% of the game is physical and 80% is mental. 1. The physical game is the swing. Practice it. 2. The mental game is managing self. Pay attention to self talk. Learn to control it. Multiple thoughts lead to double-mindedness and this causes confusion. Replace double-mindedness with single-mindedness.. Emotions effect what you do. Learn to calm oneself. Too much tension or relaxation can cause problems. Keep emotions on an even keel.. Learn to enter the zone. When you do well, notice it. Remember shots. You increase confidence when you notice what you did well. Decrease negative self talk. Be realistic about the game. Play within yourself. Appreciate self. Ken has written a neat book with Bruce Hird titled Hit It With Your Best Shot. Cost is only $10.

Prez Mathy closed the meeting with "The noblest of all dogs is the hot dog. It feeds the hand that bites it."

Next Weeks Program: Nixon Library Update by John Taylor.
