Rota-Scribe: Buck Catlin

Past Prez Wally Bartelt led off with the Pledge followed by no less than eight voices from the Membership!! Grif Duncan kept the group of Ray Ashcroft, Howard Wood, DG Stark, and Bill Peloquin, Jim Young, Janie Noppe,
and Bob ("Entrechant") Savage in sync through the traditional Rotary ballads. (DG STARK appeared impressed!).

Frank Kawase prepared a suitable "Thought for the Day" relating to wife Joan's 45th Huntington Beach High School Reunion, a quinary annum affair. The hugs, kisses handshakes seemed not to have changed since graduation days. The Rotary-like fellowship overshadowed the lengthening waistlines and receding hairlines. Just like at our Rotary, no one got any respect, not even the club president. Frank reminded us how fortunate we were not to have to wait every five years for fellowship, camaraderie, and fun. We get that every week.

RAFFLE:Andy Anderson won $100 by guessing that house with everything in it painted red except the stairs was a bungalow. A bungalow has no stairs. This drew protests from a realtor who quibbled about the definition of a bungalow. Over ruled. (The Realtors are now joining the lawyers as legal definition technicians).

PROGRAM: Our new District Governor, Allan Stark, began with kudos to Jim Vanderberg whom he considered his Mentor during his early days in Rotary. Jim was the initiator of the Rotary President-Elect (PETS) program for Rotary International. The new DG's principal message was "Do Your Best for Rotary keeping in mind the service goals of addressing health, poverty, hunger and illiteracy. He made a special point of the importance of the extended Rotary family (At this point his talk was interrupted by a cell phone call. Flushed by embarrassment he excused himself, took the call only to find it was Sondra on the other end of the table asking for her lipstick. PREZ Mathy didn't have the guts to levy a $50.00 fine). Dr Stark described the emotional event at the Rotary International Conference when two new nations - E. Timor and Afganistan -- joined the 168 countries in Rotary. He ended his pitch with a call for renewed efforts in membership, viz., 10% increase per club.
