Prez Mike called for a volunteer to lead the club in the pledge of allegiance and though there were several members eager to lead, the commanding voice of Mayor Don Bankhead won out over the rest.

 Griff Duncan led the club a capella in the singing today. As great as we all sounded we still liked the Singing Wheels, and look forward to their next performance.

Damon Dragos gave the Thought for the Day and read the following quote from Theodore Roosevelt: It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumphs of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.

Mike Escalante, Chris Hunt, Dick Glaus, Pat House, Greg Franklin, and Jim McKamy, all brought guests today. (Greg's guest, Cathy Gack, is his successor at Fullerton High School. Cathy is a member of Rotary in Oregon, and we look forward to hopefully inducting her into our club in the near future.)

Greg Franklin introduced the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Fullerton High School chapter of Interact.. These four young women described the Interactts fund raising schedule for the coming year. Their first effort is a craft boutique to be held this Saturday at the high school (Sept. 21st. 9-4). Any member of Fullerton Rotary who would like to support this fundraiser should show up and make a purchase. Help is also needed between eight and nine o'clock Saturday morning for set-up.

Vonnie Meng is in St. Jude Hospital. Newer members may not know that Vonnie is an honorary Rotarian who donated her piano playing talents to Fullerton Rotary for many years.

Red ticket Raffle was won by Jeff Hutchison, Wally Bartelt, or Rick Crane. These three have a habit of exchanging their tickets and then argue over who actually wins. Wally thinks he won this week, but had a hard time answering the questions that included: How many baseball gloves can be made from one Cowhide? and How many baseballs does a major league team purchase for one season? Wally didn't know if he'd won any money or not, but gave it all to the Foundation. I wonder if Frank Kawase was able to figure it out? (At least Bill Peloquin's questions and answers could be looked up!)

Finemaster Blackburn recognized Pete Magoski for his 71st birthday. Julianne Haynes for her birthday (she scooted early and her age was divulged as a penalty). Leroy and Jean Fulton celebrated their 51st anniversary recently. Chuck Munson, Griff Duncan, Cameron McCune and Jim Blake were all recognized for Spousal Birthday reminders.

Harry Brown, Jim Thompson, and Al Triay were all recognized for having their alma maters all leading their respective divisions in week two of NCAA football.

School Board candidate Minard Duncan introduced, Barry Ross, Sharon Quirk, and Valinda Garcia who made a very impressive presentation about the Fullerton Collaborative whose vision is a diverse and empowered community that lives in harmony and works collaboratively toward an economically secure, healthy and safe environment where all children and adults can anticipate quality education and a promising future.
