James Bruce Sievers, an author, poet and philosopher, who has spoken before six United States Presidents, tells us what is right about our country and why we should be outspoken advocates of the United States. Bob Savage led off with the Pledge followed by the Caroleers de Cinco (Griff Duncan, Bill Heaton, Jim Young, Leroy Fulton, and Jim Blackburn). Chief Pat McKinley, reminded us that technology is not what wins battles in life. Quoting from GEN. George S. Patton's 1926 book, "The Secret of Victory". Is the fierce determination of the driver close to the enemy, no the mechanical perfection of the tank, that conquers the trench. This applies to those in Pat's law enforcement and all professions. Visitors: Bernie Dunlap - Brea Rotary Guests: Carol Patterson - guest of Leslie McCarthy Edict for the PREZ regarding SOLICITATIONS! Members should refrain from solicitations or negotiating ticket sales, Rotary or otherwise, prior to and during meetings. Members should leave event circulars on the front entrance tables. Personal solicitations should be done after formal meeting has adjourned. |
Announcements of upcoming ROTARY events: Kingston Trio February 7th. Get your tickets now! Rotary Club Seniors Christmas Party December 11th. Alan Atwell needs your help and muscle by 11AM to get the Senior guests from their residences and in place by meeting time. Rotary Stud Poker Nite on November 17th netted $750. Paul Harris (AKA Jim Young) gave his classic popular monologue at the San Diego Rotary Convention. The audience was so large it could not be accommodated in one setting, so Jim gave it three times. $500 to the Rotary Club of Fullerton room at CSUF ( yeah!!) Library. Recognition Masters Moment MSGT Blackburn led off with some post Veterans Day military truisms, viz: Lots of anniversaries and birthdays: Birthdays: Jim Blackburn (58); Ray Ashcroft (63); Norma Jones (35) Jim closed the Family statistics section with the words of a father conducting a shotgun wedding: "Your Wife or Your Life!" The Program: James Sievers impassioned speech covered the poems from his three books. His experience as a former Green Beret from the U. S. Army in Viet Nam taught him to "stop bellyaching" and dwell on the positive. Bob Hope is a great American whose name, Hope reflects the best in human beings. Mr. Sievers has been nominated for the title of "Poet Laureate of America". He certainly has the credentials. |
