Volume 62, Issue 42
Rota-Scribe: Minard Duncan

The meeting was promptly opened by President Mike Oates at Hope University. Jeff Hutchison led us in the Flag Salute. The quintet of Jim Blackburn, Leroy Fulton, Bill Peloquin, Howard Wood and Jim Young guided us through God Bless Americaa and Smile. Leroy Fulton gave the Thought for the Day and emphasized that vision precedes provision. First you must have a vision in the heart then find the resources. He followed with a gracious prayer.

Howard Wood introduced members with guests: Lonny Blake-Rich Crane, Russ Kaufman- Greg Franklin, Ken Valburg-Cameron McCune, Diana Berry-Mother Frankie Berry and Aunt Julie Kemp, J. Ritchey-Chris Fraschetti. Visiting Rotarians were Wayne Calvert - District Governor, and Dick Boyle - Fullerton South. All, except Dick, received a warm welcome!

Dan Kiernan was up to his old tricks. He told two "jokes". One encouraged respectful chuckles, the other unanimous "boo-s". He fined Jim Williams for telling Dick Boyle where the meeting was this week, Jim Blackburn for calling Hope University, Hope College, Don Bankheard for being disrespectful, Bob Jahncke for not sending a letter to Amy Kluth, Cameron McCune for groundbreaking at Amerige Heights Elementary School, and Jim Williams for his daughter, Jennifer, graduating from USC with a degree in biological anthropology.. A birthday fine went to Carl Camp (51). Anniversary fines went to Greg and Debbie Franklin (21 years), Jack and Sandy Hayes (44 years), and Les and Nancy Christensen (60 years)!

Leroy Fulton introduced Dr. Roy Lawton, President of Hope University, who presented us some interesting history of the school. A small Fullerton campus started over 20 years ago with 200 students and has grown to 1300 students and includes 16 acres of land. We were led on a

tour of the new building designed and built by our own Rotarians, architect Rick Crane and builder Jeff Hutchison. It is a highly functional and flexible building with classrooms, offices, cafeteria, dining area, exercise room and a fabulous gymnasium that seats 2000 for a basketball game. It has a room dedicated to Les and Nancy Christensen! What a magnificent structure!

Our heartfelt prayers go out to Bob Sattler

and his family at the passing of his wife. Bob, may God give you strength to get you and your family through this difficult time!

John Kunau's wife has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is undergoing chemo therapy.

Don Mlodzik had lung cancer surgery on Monday. I talked to him at his home today (Wed.) and he said the biopsy indicated it was malignant - 2 lobes were taken off the right lung. He will find out the final results tomorrow.

Our next meeting will feature a visit by the Honorable Paul Harris.
