Jim Lapak led the Pledge before Griff Duncan, Ray Ashcroft, Jim Young, and Bob Savage led the club in God Bless America, and Smile, accompanied by new club pianist, Don Ludwig.
Greg Franklin read a quote from Haim Ginoff for the thought for the day that bears repeating here:
"I've come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It's my personal approach that creates the climate. It's my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or de-humanized."
Greg reminds us that besides classroom teachers, these thoughts may be applied to leaders and Rotarians.
Frank Kawase introduced visiting Rotarians who included Past District Governor Cliff Nelson for Orange, and Tom Ortiz from Yorba Linda Sunrise.
Visitors included Hal Wasburn, Jim McKamy, Sidney Scarbrough, Al TT, Paul Thompson, Howard Wood, Dick Glaus, and the lovely and politically savvy Paulette Triay.
Greg Franklin announced that the first Top 100 dinner will be March 14 and volunteers will be needed.. The annual City Track meet is March 30. Cooks and servers will be needed.
Bob Sattler introduced guest speaker Coach Jim Kunau (son of John and Athletic Director of Orange Lutheran High School). Jim detailed how, with corporate support his football program has state of the art training facilities and field. More importantly his coaching ethic revolves around training champions for life rather than game to game scoreboard success.
Buck Catlin introduced the day's second speaker, Fullerton City Councilman Chris Norby, who is running for County Supervisor. Mr. Norby detailed some issues facing the county including Transportation, Sanitation, and Planning as well as Measure W and the El Toro airport proposals.
Finally, President Bill awarded Cameron McCune his new Rotarian package as sponsor Mike Escalante looked on.
