Rotary Wheel Rotagram - Meeting Notes and Club News Rotary Wheel
Volume 80 Issue 46 Wed, June 2, 2021 Rota-Scribe Christian Estaban

After President Ken’s opening remarks, we had the following Club News:

A special board meeting convened following our club meeting to discuss club meeting venues for Zoot’s year.
An Interact service project took place on June 5th.
Our club held a Rotary Cares clinic on June 12th for Raymond Elementary School.
Incoming board member Leslie McCarthy is signing members up for various roles (finemaster, invocation, etc.) for the 2021-2022 club year.

Reading by Nine: Christian Esteban shared the thank you notes sent in from Raymond Elementary 4th graders.

President Ken gave Susan Ouweleen a special recognition for her service.

Today, we welcomed a patriotic moment from Bailey Kline, an invocation from Leslie McCarthy, and guests Dr. Greg Schulz and Ernie Delfin.

Finemaster: “Crazy Carl Camp” fined the following souls:

All present board members ($5): Howard Minkley, Cathy Gach, Susan Ouweleen, Dan Ouweleen, and Christian Esteban
Joe Lins
($5) for his 17th Rotary anniversary
Raco ($5) for his “76th” birthday
Frank Kawase ($5) for his wife Joan’s birthday
Jeff Hutchinson ($5) for his birthday
Farrell Hirsch, Jim Williams, Howard Minkley, Bob Jahncke, President Ken, and Judy Atwell (all $5) for incorrectly answering trivia questions about guest speaker Representative Young Kim.

Program: Representative Young Kim

Here are some highlights from our time together with distinguished Representative Young Kim, who, elected in 2020, is currently serving her first term in the United States House of Representatives, representing California’s 39th congressional district, including Fullerton:

Rep. Kim has had a meaningful and personal impact on our club’s projects, including having assembled thousands of masks by hand during the shield project last year.
Rep. Kim serves on the Small Business; Science, Space, & Technology; and Foreign Affairs House committees. She serves on the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus and is the regional co-chair of the SALT caucus.

Rep. Kim has requested funding for a 57/60 freeway expansion project to improve safety at the junction and the efficiency of transportation of goods.

Rep. Kim has been named “Top Freshman” in both the House and the Senate, and is committed to serving as a “bipartisan, independent legislator.” She believes there are enough members on both sides of the aisle who can compromise and find solutions.
Rep. Kim has visited local business, schools, and vaccination sites, as well as the California- and Texas-Mexico borders.
Regarding immigration, Rep. Kim expressed a desire for legislative action on the issues of border security, migrant protection, legally processing applicants, and allocating more resources and judges to support an overwhelmed immigration system.

President Ken’s closing mantra—“Go out and be good people and great Rotarians!”
