Prez Dan was not able to oversee the festivities, so Former Prez Bill took over as the acting Prez. He started the meeting explaining why he was doing what he was doing. It was all very confusing but we went along with it.

The pledge was given by Andre Fahie, followed by the prayer by Teri Grassi. The song master was our very own Griff Duncan.

Acting Prez Dan said hi to Jim Blake, who was able to make the meeting. Way to go Jim! The Prez also mentioned that Dick Jones had surgery and to keep him in our thoughts and prayers.

Future Councilman (can I say that) Larry Bennett asked anyone that wanted to, to put out signs for him in their yards. That will cost you Larry!

Andre also plugged the Boy Scout Fun-draising event to take place on October 1st from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. Kim Barlow came up and apologized about something but I couldn’t hear because the microphone wasn’t working well. But then Kim is so nice, she shouldn’t have to apologize for anything!

Jim Williams was cleaning out his closet again and passed around some nostalgia from Rotary days gone by. Some great pictures! Just goes to show you, if you stick around here long enough, you get your picture shown!

If you are craving radical inclusion, self-reliance and self-expression, join Rick Crane’s annual trek north east to the Burning Man Festival (the Fire Chief can’t go) in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. Unlike previous years, Rick promises to return from this “trip” with the same number of Rotarians as he left with. Bring sunscreen and plenty of old Rotary T-Shirts for barter. As always, seats on the bus are limited. Donations for gas are appreciated and the Kool-Aide is free. Call Rick at 714 271-8677 for reservations. Hey Rick really; sun screen for Burning Man? “gas” donations from this group?

Guests today included Chris Swarat, Travis McShane, and Amanda Michael. There were not visiting Rotarians.

The finemaster was Marty Burbank. He fined Larry for campaigning, Andre for advertising, Kim for forgetting, Minard for his 84th birthday, Allyn for an anniversary, Joanne for an anniversary (55!!), Randy for his wife’s birthday, Captain Dick for his anniversary, Mike for his two years in Rotary, and Rick “Burning Man” Crane for his anniversary. For some reason Rick never seems excited, so he was fined for that also! Since Marty gave so many people an exemption and the others that were fined were not here, there was no money raised. We figured having an attorney as finemaster, he was going to stick it to people, guess not!

After some confusion about the raffle, Leslie had the winning ticket but didn’t win the cash. Better luck next time.

Police Chief Dan Hughes addresses our Rotary Club

Our program was given by Police Chief Dan Hughes. Chief Hughes is not in our club but Jim Blake keeps trying! Chief Hughes is a great person with a wonderful sense of humor. We are lucky to have him as Police Chief.

Chief Hughes’ program included discussions about staffing, body cameras, and run/hide/fight training for active shooter incidents. He also spoke on police deployment, neighborhood outreach, and behind the badge OC. After his presentation he answered questions. It was a very interested and informative program and we hope to have him back. Thanks Chief!

Our next meeting will be at the Elks Club on 8/31.
