Valentine’s Day Edition

The meeting was called to order at 12:30 p.m. by President Bill Schenk who highlighted that it was once again a “Beautiful Day In Fullerton”.

Invocation was presented by Jay Kraemer

Flag Salute led by Bill Hite

Two rounds of “Smile” were led by Theresa Harvey

Harvey stayed up to introduce visitors and guests including:

CSUF Rotoract Members Don Lau and Mandy Nguyen
Josh Ramirez, guest of Marty Burbank
Andre Fahie, guest of Lee Brocket
Karen Haluza, guest of Rick Crane

Bill tried to explain his casual wardrobe (shorts) by noting that his wife was out of town and that he was rationing clean clothes (for more important occasions?)

Rotoract Presentation was made by Dick Daybell who has generously offered to transport CSUF Rotoract members to Catalina on his boat for the district conference. He further noted that this group joined him for a holiday light tour. A collection was taken for the upcoming Ethics program for Rotoract netting more than the necessary $200. Rotoract President Nguyen presented a thank you to Daybell – meteor shower lights for the next boat parade.

Announcements:

Joe Arnold – Collage Concert committee meets Thursday; Sponsors were thanked. Reminders regarding the concert were noted (Please mark your calendar, March 21, CSU Fullerton, dinner followed by concert. Beneficiaries include Crittenton Services, All the Arts for All the Kids and CSUF Music Scholarships.

Rick Crane reminded members of the upcoming track meet, March 7, Troy High School. Set up begins at 7:30 a.m. Volunteers should be finished by noon. Fun and fellowship for all.

Sandy Hayes noted that the Rotary Room at CSUF library, particularly the display case, has been neglected for many years. She, Miko Krivoy and Bob Maxwell have taken updating the display as a project. If you have items which you would like to donate to the cause, please contact her.

Verne Andrews noted that applications for Community investment awards are on the tables and are due next week (2/18).

Dick Daybell announced that Debra Sanchez has resigned her board position. It will be filled by Roco.

Drawing for $27 called forward Louis Koontz. He drew the wrong chip so it rolls forward.

Recognition Master Larry Bennett was called into action. No birthdays were acknowledged, but he used the Fullerton Observer as a tool for recognizing the “accomplishments” of club members.

Larry offered to teach Bill how to do his laundry.
Marty Burbank was fined for not sitting with his guest
Making up the news, Bob Pletka was recognized for making a clean restroom for the homeless
It was noted that John DeCaprio should have better trained his replacement
A lawsuit involving wage discrimination by CSUF resulted in a fine for Joe Arnold
JD’s sponsor Dan Kiernen was recognized for JD’s work with the Coast to Coast Foundation
Mike Oates, Joe Arnold, John Derry, Gary Swank and Brett Ackerman were recognized for having anniversaries close to – but not on – Valentine’s day
Bob Radde was recognized for being a great grand father
Theresa Harvey was congratulated on her Business Woman of the Year honor presented by YWCA.
Lynnette Geiss was recognized (but not fined) for dressing up the tables with Valentine’s Day candy

Craft Talk Michael Cochrane presented his craft talk that included stories of growing up in Santa Ana where he met his future wife, UCLA and later Pepperdine law school. Gayle, who he met in high school, reconnected with him many years later, tied the knot with Cochrane in 1976. Michael worked for a succession of title companies and is now semi-retired. In retirement he continues to serve as an expert witness in real estate and title insurance matters. Mike keeps in touch with his mid-west roots through his sister who still lives in Illinois. The Cochrane’s have two children and a grandson. He and his wife are active in many charities. Mike has volunteered on City of Fullerton commissions including the transportation commission and planning commissions. In his spare time he enjoys reading and traveling with his wife. He is grateful for the warm welcome Rotary has provided him.

Four Way Test, led by Randy McFarland, closed the meeting at 1:30 p.m.
