Prez Scott opened the meeting promptly at 12:30; with the invocation ably handled by Bob Maxwell followed by the pledge of allegiance, led by Robert Jahncke. Guest song leader Monette Velasco led a beautiful rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, followed by a Kim Barlow with a hand shaking rendition of Smile.
Introduction of guests by Bill Klinghoffer led off by Paulette Marshall (guest of Bill his own self); then Jeremie Sulst (Lee Brockett); Susan Hume (Mitch Hovey); Rick Alvarez (Allyn Lean), the aforementioned Monette (Zoot) and Bud Stoddard (Lee Brockett).
Prez Scott discussed the upcoming Health Clinic Project for Fullerton underinsureds, which will include optometric, dental and breast screening (which got Oates attention). The program will be at Richmond School, June 9th for registration and June 16th for the actual screening program – Need 60 Volunteers; Leslie McCarthy (who has 60 volunteers) provided an update on Top 100 banquet honoring Fullerton High School scholars, scheduled for later in the day with a super big thanks to Collette’s for handling the food preparation; Jim Williams promoted Independence and Freedom at The Muck on June 27th; Dan Ouweleen talked about the upcoming JOG-A-THON and the free wine and goodies meeting at Hartnett Law Center, 350 E. Commonwealth, starting Thursday evening at 5:45. Estimated to be five times the number of participants as last year, JOG-A-THON is a big deal that deserves your participation. Kimberly promoted the Fullerton Relay for Life, set for June 9th. Vern Andrews spoke to the Community Investment Award process and thanked all for their input. Theresa Harvey called our attention to National Racquetball Championships that are being held at Meridian this weekend, with support from the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce. Lastly, Bob Clark and Drew Napolin had thoughtful words upon the passing of Mary Jane Anderson last week.
Recognition Master of the Day, Tom Meyer, decided this was a good day to challenge Randy for the title of Worst Teller of Bad Jokes. Tom is the new champ. Betwixt and between “jokes”, Tom recognized Mitch for a spousal birthday, Cathy Gach for 24 years married on the 27th (or maybe vice versa), something about 8 Ivy League schools got someone fined, Keith knew that Memorial Day, nee Decoration Day was a post Civil War creation, but since he was not the focus of the Finemaster’s attention, Kiernan got the recognition, Larry Bennett was recognized on general principal for doing good work and finally Tom went after fellow banker Scott with an “in the pocket” banker joke. Ultimately, Tom apparently tried to get off the hook for the whole recognition bit by quoting Yogi to the effect: “I never said most the things I said.” Whatever…in this humble editor’s opinion, Tom clearly remains the champ.

Daniel Kang with the assistance of Dick Jones and the rest of the Club flunked the “which ain’t true” question from the fertile mind of Zoot, thus assuring that raffle cash stays in the kitty.
Program
Today's program was introduced by Jim Blake. Metropolitan Water District general manager Jeff Keitley provided a fact filled thirty minutes covering the history, development, current operations and major future plans of The Metropolitan Water District. An efficiently run organization of 1,898 employees provides water at the wholesale level to 26 water districts, which in turn supply more than 300 cities with part or all of their water requirements. A big task, involving 819 miles of pipelines and tunnels, 16 hydroelectic plants, 5 water treatment plants and 9 reservoirs with a total capacity of over a million acre feet of water. When you figure an acre foot is more than 325,000 gallons, that’s a lotta H2O. However, Mr. Keitley rightly pointed out, more important than where they have been is where they are going. Right now, Southern California, its existence and its future are captive to rulings by a single judge and a bunch of small fish. More than $170,000.00 has been spent on studies and paperwork to try to figure out how to overcome those small fish coupled with our State’s failure to act properly in the ‘60s and the ‘80s to build an adequate water transport system from where there is a surplus in the North to the water deficient South. Look for another Northern (we wanna keep it all) vs. Southern (we gotta have it) battle in the coming years. Meanwhile, Mr. Keitley sent kudos to Governor Jerry for again trying to do his best to correct what his father kicked down the road in the ‘60s and he was unable to accomplish his first time around in the ‘80s.
